Jonal Turamarth 35/78 54/56

Jonal was screaming and panting now. The fear was as if it were causing him physical harm but he tried to tell himself it was all in his head. He gasped for breath, and tried to answer...

"YOU...YOU KNOW I..I WILL. WHHYYY DOO YOU TRY TO PER...SUADE ME TO DO AS I ALREADY DESS...IRRRE??"

Jonal was aware of nothing much around him, even the cold stone floor that he was wallowing upon...but he did comprehend the anger he felt at the painful fear assaulting him like nothing he'd ever naturally felt boiling inside him and eating him away from within.

OOC: post co-written with Bozos.

Terak paused, as he pondered for a moment.

“That shall do well as a cover story, my dear Ghar. Just in case, I want to send Zevin with you. The stories of him since his arrival here are great, and those of the deeds he has accomplished are even greater. I was originally planning to pay him for his services, but maybe you can convince him. Do you think you could do that?” – he asked, wondering himself how many of the stories about Zevin’s prowess had been exaggerated.

"Dont get me wrong, I believe the gnome to be a formidable asset, but if I read him correctly, no amount of convincing will get him to come with me."

"Could you try at least?" - Terak asked. "You might think of things I have not thought of. Who knows what motivates him. The cult may have hidden magical treasures or unknown arcane spells, if you get my meaning."

"Magical treasures? Yes, I know what you mean. I also know about the two that escaped, how they are mocking him now. I believe that is the card to play with Zevin."

"You shall try then?"

”I shall try, yes.”

"Good, let us go then. Alrod shall also come with us, he knows the area around the cult and shall take you and the other men I can spare to the cult."

Terak was about to leave when Ghar Dien stopped him "Terak? I just want to ask you... why the sudden interest in the cave? No, I'm not complaining, but yesterday you sent me in alone, and now you want to help me, even give me men. What changed?"

"My orders changed." - was all that he said.

Half an hour later as they walked towards the encampment on the same road the attacks had taken place the day before, he added as an afterthought:

"And besides yesterday you had just popped out of nowhere and I did not know of everything about you. Since then I have learnt many things..."

For Jonal:

"The traitor priest already gave you the chance of an alliance once, but you killed him. What proof can you offer that you really do desire it?"

The fear lessened somewhat, giving Jonal enough control to be able to think about his reply.

Zevin 52/52 15/90

Zevin waved the human's offer of help away. "The last time I let a human doctor examine me it felt like I'd taken a boot to the head afterwards, A gnomish chirurgen is the only type I'd let examine me, if you aren't a gnome unfortunately, our anatomny is almost impossible not to mess up by trying to help. I'd be best served with a warm bed, and a cup of good wine." Zevin took a few halting steps, his face twisting up into a grimace with each one and a sharp hissing intake of breath.

Jonal Turamarth 35/78 54/56

Jonal literally felt that he had been suffocating this whole time, for when the fear subsided, he was no longer gasping for air and the cool, moist air of this cavern quickly filled his lungs so fast that it hurt.

What had the voice asked him? If he was willing to kill again? Did it want him to kill more priests? Did it think that he killed the first priest merely for being a traitor and coming too close?

"Look...you bastard! I make it my living to murder whoever needs murdering so that I can make a living. I have no care for any of those dream-worshippers in that temple, and will kill all of them at my first chance just because their god found it profitable for himself to force me into some stupid job. I shall not be provoked in that manner! I'll kill them just because of the harm they have dealt me in stealing my memories of who I used to be years ago...They have brought this on themselves! Why do you think you have to persuade me with your games to get me to do something that I already am willing to do? Are you that crazy????"

For Ghar Dien and Zevin:

For Zevin more than an hour passed before Terak arrived with Ghar Dien.

Terak whispered to Ghar:

"I'll let you try convincing him then. I'll be in my cabin."

For Jonal:

In reply to Jonal, the fear started mounting once again, then suddenly a chilling voice came from behind him.

"That's enough Grigg."

Jonal had not even noticed the man, who had been previously in the window above. He could now see that the man had a face, which showed no emotions, it was a blank slate.

Light invaded the dark corridor and Jonal could see that it was barely twenty feet long. The only exit they could go through was the one he had come through.

There was a small hole at the other end of the small tunnel and Jonal could just see Grigg's retreating back inside it. It was however much too small for him to go through.

"Come, let us go to more comfortable quarters."

As the man led Jonal through corridors and chambers, always going downwards he could see that he had a limp. After about ten minutes they arrived at a chamber, on one side of which were stationed two guards on each side of a tall door. They opened the door as the man approached and he and Jonal went into the small chamber.

Hundreds of books lined all of the walls, and the room looked much more like a study, than somewhere where the leader of a cult resides. A small bed in the corner and a table facing the door, with a chair behind it were the only furnishings of the room. The topics of the books were mostly teology, but some of them were even literary books.

He sat on the chair, while motioning the bed for Jonal to sit on.

"As you have probably guessed, I am Shaka. I know that you are Jonal, and I am pretty sure that you have several questions."

Ghar Dien 47/47 70/70

After greeting Zevin, Ghar Dien paused for a moment. He was trying to imagine what would be the best angle to approach the gnome, and decided he needed some background first. "Tell me, Zevin, how is it that a gnome such as yourself got into this mess?" Seeking fortune and fame? Women? Gambling?

Jonal Turamarth 35/78 54/56

By now, Jonal had been able to calm down considerably, and stop shivering from the torment his body had just suffered. He was a little more relaxed, but was still a bit edgy. He glared at Shaka as he said,

"As a matter of fact, yes. What the hell was that all about?"

For Jonal:

The man smiled an understanding smile.

"It is a necessary test. Not necessary for me, as I knew more about you then what I had found out in the last ten minutes, but necessary for your acceptance by those who serve me."

Then as if preanswering Jonal's next question he motioned a small crystal ball in a corner of the room. It looked exactly the same as the one, which had been smashed in the Dreamweaver's temple not so long ago. It's surface was completely black, and unmoving.

"I saw all that happened in the temple there. And I am also curious. Tell me, what is it like to be visited by a god?"
