The Tale of the Ugly Troll (cont. Part III)

"Nice to know you care, fair lady..." Galein whispered in reply, and found himself smiling - and chewing - at her command. Muttering to himself, Galein finished the apple, and then a grin spread across his features. Kicking back, he assumed a lordly pose, (think one of those Renascence(sp?) greek paintings with the grapes and the women feeding them to the guy) and asked sweetly, "What else shall you force me to eat, sweet Jena?" It was obvious he was teasing and getting back at her... at least he was able to joke around, even if it was a little bit.

Jena attempted to hold back a snicker but was unsuccessful. Grinning, she couldn’t help but play along. “I’m pleased to see you in such pleasant spirits, master. Would you like some fine wine and cheese?” It calmed her to notice the change and lightheartedness in Galein’s behavior. “Or do you prefer roasted rump of boar or perhaps a little something more?” Smiling, she leaned playfully in close.

"Hmm... well, since you offered..." Galein smiled, his mood reminding Jena of Aeriah, "Perhaps, the boar, cheese and fine wine." Propping himself up, he waited for Jena to feed him by hand, not moving an inch. From the twinkling in his eyes, he was enjoying their banter.

Jena glanced in her pack and frowned. “Hmm….the palace stock is getting a bit low, your majesty. It would seem the cupboard is lacking the necessary food items fit for royalty. Surely we must have a thief in our midst.” Jean jokingly glanced around suspiciously. “It would appear, however, that I do have a little bit of cheese left.” She did withdraw some cheese from her pack and smiling she fed it to Galein. It was a cheese that he probably had never tasted: so delicious and unique was it. “I hope you like it, Galein. It’s from….my home.” She held a sad, reminiscent smile briefly, and it only lingered on her face for a brief second before leaving her grinning once again.

Nodding slowly, the elf replied, his light-heartedness gone, "You didn't have to..." He meant, referring to giving him the cheese. "Any food would have been enough..." Smiling slightly, he added, "Well, when I get my kingdom back... I'll make it up to you." Then he sighed, sat back and closed his eyes. "Where are those others?"

Jena frowned. "Don't be silly! Of course I wanted to share with you! If I didn't, then I would have eaten it all up myself and not left one delicious morsel for you." Jena sighed and shook her head. "This was a gift to you: you do not owe me a thing, Galein. You needed the food more than I." Jena raised her arms and put her hands behind her head, and sat back next to Galein. "As for the others....I do not know." Jena exhaled deeply as a flash of her recent dream crossed her mind.

"Then... I thank you, and..." After a moment, the elf continued, having taken a long pause to think, "we should find them, although, I'm not really in any fit state to move. Maybe they'll find us." Sighing, he grumbled, "When I get my hands on the person who's done this..." he left the thought hanging, but Jena could see he was not amused. Somehow, somethign in his eyes, told her that he knew exactly what this curse was, and where it came from...

Jena leaned forward and took his hand in hers. "Who could do such a thing? Is someone angry with you?" She glanced at him, tilting her head sideways, and a geniuine hint of concern glimmered in her misty blue eyes. "I'd offer to go and look for the others, but you are in no condition to be left alone so I insist on staying by your side." She stroked his hand gently with her own, intending the gesture to be comforting. "I am unfamiliar with how these types of curses work. What can we do, if anything, to rid you of this?"

"It's her," Galein grumbled, glaring off into space, more then a little annoyed; "She's jealous. And she's been spying on me. And no doubt, wants me to come and find her. This curse," he continued, "Will try to draw me to a certain point, and no doubt, it'll affect me more and more until I come. I expect she wants to scream at me or something." Grumbling sullenly, he muttered something about how she must have awoken when he did...

Jena frowned at the mention of Galein’s fiancé. If one was not paying attention to her at the exact moment, they would have missed the slight jealous flicker in her eye. “Wouldn’t she have lost her memories as well? How could she remember that she was to be wed to you and how could she have the right to mess with you like that?” Jena shook her head. “She certainly can’t expect you to hurry to see her when she makes you weak and famished.” Jena just did not understand her position. Never in her life had she met a woman who wished to harm others. “All the woman in my life: my mother, the female elves that cared for me, and the other human females I grew to know…..were all gentle, caring, and motherly to the males in their lives. I just do not understand…she’s jealous….of what?" Jena was a young, innocent, caring young woman, and she could not for the life of her understand the intention of the other woman to injure the elf she was to be married to.
