Very important information for Andrion...and everyone else wanting to know...

Given what has happened and all the action taken place...it has been concluded that you have 2 images of yourself left.
Now...these images are not static, so they can shift. Since you have two...then any attack on you would have a 2/3 chance of failure. I just thought you'd want to know.

Arcades. I think it would not be asking too much of you to rethink your post. I know that none of us can post with the depth and quality that Tao did...she is amazing and admirable...but you cannot just run up to her in like three sentences and ask her to help you with something after all she got put through just now. Besides...you got there way too fast. Consider the time it takes to ride to her, and make an appropriate post that demonstrates that passage of time.

Now...the Banewolves are on the move. Whose to say that they do not intercept you "before" you make it to Tao's location? The DM. Therefore, I need to be given the opportunity to decide if you get waylaid. Maybe Tao has to come rescue you! We have to allow for such events.

Thanks man.

I think it would be different from that, since Andrion is still invisible, so only the two images are visible.

Edit: Cyril has explained to me, so now I understand.

Edit2: but a new question has arisen. If Andrion casts a second Mirror Image, how would that interact with the images of the first one? Would it keep the old images and create new ones, or would the old images disappear and new ones appear?

After asking about Mirror Image around town, I decided to allow the images to stack. This means that the old images will stay if a new Mirror Image spell is cast.

Now...the duration. I searched online and found a 2nd Edition description of this spell.

MIRROR IMAGE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
( Illusion Phantasm )

Level: 2
Range: 0 Components: V,S
Casting Time: 2
Duration: 3 rds./level
Area of Effect: 6-ft. radius
Saving Throw: None
Frequency: Common
Author: TSR
Book: 2
Page: 571

Description: When a mirror image spell is invoked, the spellcaster causes from two to eight exact duplicates of himself to come into being around him. These images do exactly what the wizard does. Since the spell causes a blurring and slight distortion when it is cast, it is impossible for opponents to be certain which are the illusions and which is the actual wizard. When an image is struck by a melee or missile attack, magical or otherwise, it disappears, but any other existing images remain intact until struck. The images seem to shift from round to round, so that if the actual wizard is struck during one round, he cannot be picked out from among his images the next. To determine the number of images that appear, roll 1d4 and add 1 for every three levels of experience the wizard has achieved, to a maximum of eight images. At the end of the spell duration, all surviving images wink out.

NOTES: Common spell (PHB).

This says maximum of 8, but I think 1st Ed. allowed more, so ignore the cap requirement in this description as we will be using what Cyril and I have already approved.

Larry, let's take another look at this......

We allowed Andrion 9 images on his initial casting and the difference between 8 and 9 is slight. However, with 2 images left - he could conceivably reach a total of 11 and the difference between 8 and 11 is fairly significant. And given that Andrion at 17th level would get a minimum of 6 images each casting, he could conceivably stack 2 castings of the spell for a minimum of 12 images.

Let's not be so quick to give up the cap. Since we allowed nine images, I'm fine with making that the new max. Otherwise, I suggest we keep the total of 9 for this battle and use the cap of 8 for future occassions.

BTW - In first edition the spell produces 1-4 images. No cap is explicitly set, but intention seems to be toward keeping the number of images under control.

I agree with that. I in fact tried to mean that in my post, but it did not really come out in the words.

I will be on drugs in another month, so maybe my ability to post meaningful messages will improve...

Alright, since you asked nicely. Besides, i've been pretty lax about the descriptiveness and flow of my posts. I'll think up something.
