OOC>> Alright, let me nip this in the bud right here. The previous Post was very well written and provided some nice flavor. HOWEVER, this thread is being run as a Virtual Pnp game and I am the DM.

NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO ADD OR CREATE NPC'S IN THIS THREAD!!!!

Unless I give the OK first. That obviously was NOT the case here.

For now, I will allow Binham and Larry to stay in the thread. But because of this incident, the thread is now CLOSED. NO NEW characters will be allowed unless approved by me first.

Balinor looked at Cerek, who simply shrugged his shoulders and returned his gaze. Very well, it looked as if nobody else was going to show up. He then turned to address those still in the room.

"As you've been told, there is a large and very well organized band of hobgoblins encamped in the forest not far from here. They have established a camp in an area that has some caves to offer shelter from the elements. The camp is guarded by regular patrols - usually consisting of 8 to 12 hobgoblins at a time. Each patrol has a leader that directs the movements of the others. I watched them kill a couple of bears and the patrol worked together to bring it down quickly. They are very disciplined and very skilled. Because of the different patrols, I was not able to determine the exact number of hobgoblins in the camp. My best estimate is that there is between 40 to 50 total.

I recommend attacking individual patrols. That will prevent you from facing the full strength of the camp and you should be able to eliminate a large number of them before the patrols are missed back in camp."

Cerek then stood up to address the group.

"You will leave at dawn, the day after tomorrow. This will give you time to purchase any supplies you feel you will need. Also, if you see any of the others, bring them up to date and tell them when to meet here for the journey. It will take most of the day to reach this camp and start scouting for the patrols.

Balinor will lead the group to the general area and point you in the right direction, but then he has other matters which require his urgent attention. So remember, you are going to be on your own out there. No healers, other than the ones in your group, and no second chances. If you get killed, there will be nothing we can do for you.

Are there any questions before you go?"

OOC>> This might be a little confusing, but it will be assumed that the remaining two fights in the Octagon have been completed before the party leaves - even though they may not get Posted before you start out. I haven't seen a response from Neb, so I will just schedule a 4-way fight between Bacardi, Dravin, Lorath, and Grindall. This will complete their obligation of 3 fights before being allowed in the Treasure Room.

In other words, these 4 characters can go ahead and PM me with their magic item request. Your characters will have the items available in THIS thread, but not in the Octagon (yet).

Your post in the Octagon mentioned a 5-way including Kelryn. Is he officially out of the fight?

OOC>> No. He is officially IN the fight. I made the post here FIRST, then posted in the Octagon. I just plain forgot about Kelryn and hadn't had a chance to Edit my Post over here yet.

That will also help Lorath a bit. He is a stalker and likes to "sneak up" on opponents. With 4 different opponents to watch in open melee', he will have a much better chance of succeeding in a "sneak attack"

BTW, this fight WILL take place INSIDE the Octagon - not in the Warehouse District.

And - YES - Kelryn will be joining the party to hunt the hobgoblins.

will we be dividing into smaller parties to deal with the 1/2orcs... i mean hobgoblins , or will we be doing it as one group, or is the option up to us?

Balinor will lead you to an area near the patrols. You will travel as a single group to that point. After that, I will allow the party to discuss their options and decide on the best course of action.

???
Cerek, I was following this on your first post...

Quote:
But, this IS an Inn, and other adventurers ARE welcome to visit. I can't promise you will find any adventures for your characters within the fair city of Miramar, but it IS growing in prosperity and reputation.
I took that to mean that as long as I did not interfere with the mainstream...I would be allowed to help add "atmospere", or "an extra body to interact with"...and had no intentions of deviating from your established setting. I shall resign my newfound position, if that is your will.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. If you want to add "atmosphere", that's OK. I even acknowledged as much in my previous post.
But, if you want to add "an extra body to interact with", the answer is NO!!!

Why not? There are several reasons. First and foremost is the fact that this is a DM-run thread, and I'm the DM. Players can bring their characters in, but they cannot create NPC's within the setting - especially without asking me about it first.

Secondly, this takes place on Arkon. A game world that was created and designed by VulcanRider and "fleshed out" by the two of us. It is the homeworld for all our PnP characters and they are the "heroes" of the land. Yes, Miramar IS growing in prosperity and reputation, but it is still the domain of the DM to create NPC's - not the Players.

As I said, had I been approached BEFORE the Post was made, we may have been able to work something out. But to make a post adding an NPC to a gameworld and THEN asking if it is OK is rather rude and presumptious.

Finally, I've seen more than one thread in the RP forums that was NOT controlled by a DM where players WERE allowed to create NPC's. Sometimes it worked OK, but other times the player and their NPC's either disrupted the storyline beyond repair or ended up taking over the thread and changing the storyline completely. That is not going to happen here.

250,

I DID read your post in Dark Clouds. That's how I knew you were going to show up at the Inn. AND....when you WERE "just sitting around and drinking", nothing was said about it. However, your second Post introduced two extra characters (one of which was supposedly going to become a recurring NPC) AND made mention of the hobgoblin attacks. It seemed a logical assumption that you and Larry were going to try to join the party....or seek them on your own.

I've already thoroughly addressed the issue of adding an NPC without my consent. THAT is what made me angry. Had you not "stormed out" of the Inn so quickly, you would have seen the Post I made where Cerek dealt with the newbie NPC, then offered to let you and Larry join the group headed for the hobgoblins.

Also, you've mentioned more than once that "If I had read your Post in Dark Clouds, this "misunderstanding" would have been avoided". Yet, you turn around and state that you "have not followed MY posts". Perhaps this "misunderstanding" could also have been avoided if you would follow your own advice.

If you and Larry wish to stay in the thread, you're more than welcome to. If either of you want to discuss this issue any further, it should be done with PM's.
