At the Sea's Bounty inn in the Docks district, there is a hidden door. Behind it is a whole bunch of pirates that you have to fight. Why are they there?

I found them too. I just assumed they were a little bit of color being added to the game. As far as I know, they have no real effect on the plot.

That's right. The pirates aren't related to any quest, they will just attack you, after which you kill them and take the pearly thingies.
Plus they give the thumb and the sea's bounty more depth. |
