To backstab someone, use the "stealth" button, so u r hidden in shadows, get behind them and attack. A small reminder, though, you must be using a thief weapon to backstab.

Hehe, why of course. I think about 30%(or more) of all the monsters in my last two games were backstabbed.
If you don't know how to do it, here is how: Have the thief hide in shadows, or use a invisibility potion, or let a mage cast an invisibility spell on him/her, then you walk behind the target, pause, use either a longsword, a katana or a shortsword and attack. The thief should do x3-x5 damage depending on what level your thief is, unless he/she has such a bad THACO that he/she misses. A fighter/thief almost never miss a backstab which can't be said about the singleclassed thief. In the beginning, the singleclassed thief's THACO is good enough to backstab, becuase there are a little easier monsters, but later on it becomes tougher for the thief. |

Hi.
The way that seems to work for me is to go into stealth mode whiilst out of all enemies line of sight,( make sure your melee weapon rather than ranged is selected)then try to sneak around your victim avoiding if possible well lit parts. ( Ie Stay in the shadows)Basicallly you need to be directly behind your opponent then attack him/her. Providing all your sneaking has been succesful and you are still hiiden your next attack if you hit will do the extra backstab damage.This also works if you are invisible, you can march right up to your opponent, get behind them and stick em one right between the shoulder blades. hope this is helpful. sossages Maybe a silly question, but have do you backstab someone?[/QUOTE] |

Some hints on backstabbing;
-Some creatures are "imune" to backstrab, undead, monster type like dragons, oytughs and such. Also, undead can spot hiding characters, use invisibility and non-detection. All onehanded bladed weapons wil lwork for backstab. ------------------ ![]() ::HOWLING WOLFGIR THE MAD WOLF:: |

Dragons can also see you if you're invisible, so DO NOT try to sneak your thief up to them (unless you really want to get rid of him)

Heh...
The last time, I used Mass Invisibility when fighting a dragon, got fried. Anyway, try not to attempt to backstab a dragon until you have brought down it's defences, cos the dragon will respond to the backstab attack, and turn towards the thief, which, may have very little hitpoints. ------------------ A Drawn Sword; A Trickle Of Blood; The Tempest Is Brewing.
