I've cleared out the town except for the dragon in the NW corner. 3 re-loads so far.

I'd appreciate any tips you folks can offer for dragon slaying. What type of dragon is it exactly? Any idea how old?

Thanks,
Ranger

Do you have the sword "Dragon Slayer" that might help.

It's a black dragon. To be feared are Wing Buffet and his normal attack, I'm not sure about Dragon Breath. Cast Protection from Fear on your Party to resist the dragon fear. Summon as many creatures as you can as cannon fodder, and pound him with spells (this dragon's magic resistance isn't THAT great, my spells actually did damage...)
The druid/cleric spell Lightning Storm (or whatever it's called, the one where lightning bolts come down from the sky every so often, lvl or 3 I think it is) worked very well for some reason.

This works all the time, so long as you have high enough wizards and preists. Stay in a corner of the area, then cast cloud kill on him a few times (just to wound him to make it easier to kill him). Then cast low level summoning spells and send the creatures in at a different angle to you one at a time. This uses up the dragons spells and nasty stuff. Once he just attacks normally summon your best creature (generally the deamons work the best, and don't forget to use the usual protection from evil 10' radius before). Then send them in and then your warriors. Hack and slash your way till he is dead.

Alternatively you could just lower his magic resistance with some spells and then cast death spells at him till he dies. Nuf said.

Without any knowledge of your group I will keep this general:

- lay some traps as soon as you enter the area, but before you see the dragon. Lure him here later.

- summon everything you can, or better let your PI summon everything and buff everything with resist fear and haste, etc.

- this guys resistance did suck, so hit him with one pierce magic or lower resistance and let your mage start whacking him with magic missiles. Read the dialogue if he casts any counter spells, and then pierce him again.

- set your long range guys around the rim, and bring out the arrows of biting or piercing.

- get the suped up tanks to go initiate combat, draw him back to where you want to fight him. Traps go off, spells cast and archers start the barage.

- toughest tank hit him first, the rest attack from another angle. Run and heal as necessary.

I just fireballed it to death. I had my mage and Imoen stand so that the dragon was still under the shaded area and could not see my party. Then I just cast lots of fireballs and it was dead. Simple

My money goes on lowering resistance and battering with spells. Use summons to keep the pesky critter busy and then blast him with lots of lightning and magic missiles. With enough spell casters this works very easily. Also be prepared to use stuff like wands and once a day items. Horn of Berserker summoning, figurine of Kitthix, etc are all useful for when he kills or wing blasts your other summonses. And when he is almost dead send in the tanks - it speeds things up and they have little risk of dying by then.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Try all mass buffing spells (prot. from evil 10ft) get every1 to cast the best spells on ur party then charge in and use your tanx.... It will cast Plant Growth which is a bugga... so move away from the plant growth... then try lowering resistance and casting powerful spells on it
