First post...interesting board!
In the sewers under the Copper Coronet there is a doorway to a small treed area controlled by the Myconid King. First time I went in, 3 of my team got killed and after the battle I found plenty of good loot - at least a dozen items. So I reloaded, came back in, and between summoning and missile weapons no one even gets hurt. I check for loot and find one leather armor!! Have the designers made the amount of loot dependent on how hurt you are? Or does it depend on a dice roll when you enter an area? |

In a word, no.
Treasure discovered is most likely just the luck of the draw. Creatures are usually tied to a treasure type with some probability of that type of treasure being found. Sounds like you got very lucky the first time and very UN-lucky the second.

Speaking of 'changing' loot, in the Docks district there's a cave that some Pirates are using as a hideout. I thought the 'treasure' in the pool was pretty skimpy, so I was wondering....since they're pirates, if I come back later in the game will they have accumulated more loot?

My gut reaction would be NO, but you never know.

Uh, sorry for perhaps stating the obvious or maybe this is a dumb reaction, but are you sure it wasn't the items from your dead comrades that you found the first time ? I never found a lot of loot in that cave, only a battle axe. And that leather armor you found, are you sure it isn't one from one of your slain summons ?

I'm inclined to agree with the last poster. When a party member dies, they drop all their gear in a single spot. It's easy to mistake that for treasure, and could happen to anybody.
Most treasure in BG2 is not randomized, unless it's very slight to begin with. Then, items of roughly equal value might be switched about. |

It is most likely it was the party members' loot, as no one baddie can drop 'dozens' of items.

I tend to agree with these last posts. The fallen comrades were all in close combat with the Myconid King and they all went down in a heap. When it looked like there was a reason to reload and try again I did it quickly without any thought as to how many of those items I recognized. Thanks.
