Hi, I've been lurking on these boards for a while now and decided to join. I was wondering if maybe someone could list a good amount of other games similiar in play to wizardry 7-8 that I haven't played. I will list below what I have already played, thanks for any help as I seem to have no games to play anymore and would really like to start another epic style rpg.

Might and Magic 1-6 (don't want to play the rest)
Wizardry 7-8 (have played all of them though besides 6)
Baldurs Gate 1-2
Icewind Dale 1-2
Elder Scrolls 1-3
Neverwinter Nights
Planescape: Torment
Sacred
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor
GreyHawk: The Temple of Elemental Evil
Diablo 1-2
Heroes of Might and Magic 1-4

I don't want to play that wizards and warriors game so don't list that and I have been patiently waiting for Grimoir to get finished but it dosen't look like its going to happen for a while. So yeah anything similiar will work as long as it is not extremely outdated. One series I have never really tried was Ultima but not sure if that's similiar to whats listed above in terms of gameplay hours and style. Thanks for any help!

I have played only Ultima Underwolrd2: Labyrinth of Worlds from the Ultima series. It was way back but I can still say that it was one of the best games I have ever played (probably only topped by Deus Ex, which certainly does not belong here...). By now it is VERY outdated and you will probably have a lot of trouble getting it started on a new PC (I played it on a 486 back in 1994). Anyway, if you can lay your hands on it and you don't mind backdated graphics, then go for it! Good luck with your efforts! Legolas73

Of the Ultimas, I still consider IV to be the best. It was released to the public some time back, and you can probably find it for downloading somewhere on the net.

However, it is a very old game, and the graphics are primitive. Very much so. Also, as with most Ultimas, you have to take a LOT of notes. There is no in-game feature for tracking anything, nor is there an auto-map. And yes, you may have trouble getting the game to run on a modern computer.

The general syle of Ultima in the early versions is you have a solo charater who picks up party members along the way. You have control over them once they join. The more recent Ultimas changed that somewhat to give you a smaller party, and in VIII the game became solo. I didn't play IX (the last one), having become disenchanted with the series.

You may want to consider Fallout/Fallout 2, which have a post-nuke setting. Sounds horrible, but actually they are done well. Unfortunately, both games have exactly the same plotline, which disappointed me. If you decide to look into these, take Fallout 2, which has quite a few interesting side quests. These are solo games, but you can take on people if you want to.

planescape torment!!!
its the same engine as the bg series, but it's set on the planes. in fact, in playing bg2, you prolly took the quest which led you into one of the many planes in that dimension, so you know a lil bit about plane hopping to get you started.

it's one of the only recent rpgs i've played where what you do and say determines your alignment and how you develop. it's also intense, as far as the storyline goes... you get to talk to everyone and boy, they talk a lot. but how could anyone pass up an opportunity to discuss entropy with a war golem? or, for that matter, rip out yer eyeball and replace it.

it's also one of the only rpgs i've played where all the so-called "useless" stats are the most important and required to get the full impact of the storyline.

it's been repackaged lately and sells with "soulbringer" (which stinks, btw) for a measly $9.99. if you find it, buy it!

Wizards and Warriors is still under-rated, but I still have difficulty in staying into it when I start it up again. The interface and some of the restrictions on leveling to towns are probably part of it.

I liked Ultima 4 of that series the best, followed by 5 or 6, I think. All are primitive by today's graphics. Wiz 6 is fun, you should try that. If you can get past the graphics. The game play is just as addic..I mean, fun as Wiz 8. You get can get mucho old games here:

http://www.the-underdogs.org/

I remember some great adventure/RPGs such as Eye of the Beholder, Anvil of Dawn, Faerie Tale Adventure, etc. Some old DOS games are almost impossible to get going on later Win computers, such as one of the best all time RPGs: Betrayal at Krondor (it used up almost all DOS 640K mem and used extended or expanded mem, couldn't get both the mouse and sound to work on later systems so kept old 386 computer). Planescape Torment was good but I prefer a first person look and I couldn't get out of the first level...should have kept trying.

In the meantime, I stick with Wiz 8 until something new comes out, like the Bards Tale remake this spring (if it is any good).

Edit: fiexed typos

Hi everybody! I've been away for quite some time. There's nothing out there!!

I'm playing BG2 right now but it's not very good. I'm in Drowshemire and not really in the mood to continue. M&M 7 and 8 are both good. Don't pass them up. 9 was good the first time and then it just sucked big poop. I don't know what idiot was responsible for that mess.

Well I looked around the internet a little bit and decided if I am going to play any Ultima games I will wait until there remakes are done. A good amount of them are being remade (3d) so I will just wait.
I already own Planescape Torment I got it the day it came out so that one won't work.
I check the Underdogs a lot and almost anything that seems interesting seems to be to outdated for me to be able to enjoy.
So again I am stuck as to what to play can anyone tell me where to go to get more info on the bard's tale remake? I checked out the site for that Dungeon Lords game and it looked ok so I will consider playing it when it comes out.

Lastly how do I upload or add an avatar? I didn't see the options for it anywhere.

avatars are set. you don't choose them, you earn them depending on your number of posts.

however, if you want a pic in your signature, it's like anywhere else. you need an online picture storage site (eg: photobucket, YES album, or image venue, etc.) where you can store images and then create a link to it. just remember 2 things:
1) don't direct link to a picture you find on someone else's site, without their express permission.
2) read the FAQ, so you know what the limits on size and content are for sig files.

Actually, DWB only worked on Wizardries 5, 6 and 7 (not the entire series).

Have a read through this topic to get a feel for what Wiz8 fans are thinking about Dungeon Lords.
