Greetings,
I was curious to know how important it is to add NPCs to your party. I just met up with Myles and I have an adequate thief already. So I basically have a couple general questions. 1. If you accept an NPC can you boot him/her later and still get them back if needed? 2. Do you need them to complete certain quests? I guess I'd prefer to save all experience for my own party members. But I don't want to miss out on any quests. Feel free to spoil me |

1. Yes, u can aquire and boot NPC's as desired, however once booted they soon teleport back to a certain location. e.g. entrance of arnika for miles, heli's bar for Vi (after being rescued)
2. Yes later on you need soe of the NPC's for quests. The majority though you can hire and fire at will.

Myles you don't need for anything. You don't really need any of the "joinable" NPC's, though some people like to have one or two in the party (usually RFS and Vi). However, there are some rescues in the game where you need an open slot for the rescuee(s). These people are required to complete quests, and leave when you return them to wherever they're supposed to be.
As the the ones you can recruit, yes, they can be dumped any time. Most return to where you found them, although some have been reported to disappear, like Tantris, and RFS-81 just sits wherever you leave him. Keep in mind that all these recruits have one or more places they will refuse to enter. You can force them in, but then they act as though hexed plus they whine and nag the whole time. |

aside from having been developed poorly for their levels so far, they are XP drains. Especially if you hire 2 of'm--sucking up 1/4 of the points.
(edit) Oh, and as your party size decreases, the ratio gets worse, although there are more points avalable for each...I have never held onto any RPC's for very long. I've played games whose purpose was to play around with them, and i haven't been happy with any of them. [ 06-04-2004, 09:35 PM: Message edited by: Scatter ] |

The only NPC I keep now is the android (RFS). Not always. I an schizoid about it. He is a joy to have compared to the others and you get maybe 80K for getting him. Vi was fun at first and teaches about Valk skills. The others are good for novelty, but don't travel well. I don't go for the "XP drains" reason to drop them, they just don't go far enough. I would keep the Trinnies or Sax if I could count on them. But I think the plot makes keeping them a liabilty, aiming for the next stage. Maybe next evolution of the game they can have more impact and stay with the party.

You get 80K even if you don't recruit RFS. Just fix it.

Thank you for all the information. I think I'll stay away from the NPCs as much as possible. I really like my current party line up and would love to maximize them as much as possible. I can't believe what a great game this turned out to be! I bought it when it came out, got busy with work and shelved it. Pulled it out a couple weeks ago and don't know how I didn't get hooked before! =)

Dont forget you can get a NPC to join, then remove all their items and sell them for money then kick em out!

you can get much more interesting stuff if you PP them. There's a lot of stuff that doesn't show up on their personal inventory. If you kill them you might get one or two nice things. And some XP. And for "special" items they have, you can sneak them by right-clikcking the item onto another character's portrait while in the inventory screen.
