Making gadgets

Does your engineering skill affect how powerful the gadget you make is? I was reading a list of the gadgets you can make and they all say power 1, but we made the armourplate gadget and it's power 5.

Gadget power is a variable; you can't control it the way you can with a spell. Even a high-level gadgeteer with good skills can have a low result on using an item. Stamina may also play a part here (i.e. the more gadgets are used in the fight they less they do because the Gadgeteer is tiring), but I'm not certain about that.

Bard music is much the same.

I don't think, that stamina is important. I always have a Gadgy in my party and even short before unconciousness he is able to generate a lvl 7 Heal All.
I also saw a bard (lvl 17) creating only a lvl 3 Haste in the first combat round after resting.
IMO, there are other things, that have influence on the spell levels of gadgets and instruments, but I don't know them. Maybe it's only a bit of luck ,( and , of course, the higher the level of the bard and the gadgeteer, the lower the chance to create low level spells ).
