Yay. You got a little way to go yet, unless you got to Beyjin via the Sea Caves...

I'd like to know the party you used I always have a crapload of problems.. also, if you want, I'd appreciate it if you put down some guidelines for character development, I think I'm screwing that up somehow no matter how smart I think I am

Consider carefully before you create your characters.

Decide what each character will be and do.

Write it down. Refer to these notes as your characters advance.

Here's what you should decide:

Each character gets 6 ability points per level, and 9 skill points. You can put a maximum of 3 into any one slot. So write down which statistics and skills your character will work on. The simplest is to choose two stats and three skills, maximizing each one every time. The will work very well for the basic character classes. Sometimes, especially for hybrids or on the skills screen, you'll have more priorities than you can maximize. In this case, write skills and abilities that you will split points between like this: Dex/Speed. When you advance, using three points, try and keep those two skills close to equal. For example, here's my notes for Gonk.

Elf Gadgeteer
Abilities: Int (max 70), Dex/Speed/Senses
Skills: Locks & Traps, Engineering, Modern Weapons/Ranged Combat

This means that at level up, Gonk gets +3 Int until Int reaches 70, and +1 Dex/Speed/Senses. After Int reaches 70, he'll get +2 Dex/Speed/Senses. On the Skill screen, he gets +3 Locks & Traps, +3 Engineering, and divides 3 points between Modern Weapons and Ranged Combat.

Write up you entire party this way, and you will be able to check at a glance *before* creation, that you've covered every skill you want, and haven't foolishly doubled up on, e.g., Artifacts.

Good luck,

Horpner

ragash - horpner makes great advice. sometimes it's hard to know which stats/skills to work on for each character, but to a large degree it comes down to this: decide on something and stick to it! or, as we say in chess, a bad plan is often better than no plan

once you get comfortable developing different classes, you can start thinking about how those classes (and/or the different ways to develop them) will work together, then you can have a play with party compositions!

joe - congrats on getting your party through. the first is often the sweetest. in my case, i had played for a year but didnt want to ascend a party until i was happy with it - not cuz the parties couldnt get there! i just brought my tenth to the peak over the holiday break, too
