Question Mark

Eye of the Beholder is a good comparison, not sure how far back you go. You have a party of adventurers which you choose. You gain skills, armor and gold as you explore. Now, if we compare it to games out there now... I'm thinking. Um, still thinking. It's like Morrowind with a group and not nearly as tedious. OK, I give up. I'm not sure how to compare it if you haven't tried earlier Wizardry or Might and Magic games. It really goes back to Dungeons and Dragons, but they have modified them quite a bit. It is an acquired taste.

zig's right. although the quests and balance of combat and quests/plot are comparable to a number of games, wiz 8 is unique.

for me, it's the character system sets wiz 8 apart. the best thing i can think of is to call it old-school, but with all the advantages of having a computer do calculations on a system that's suprisingly subtle, balanced, and complex.

geez, this is like trying to identify the sound of a new band that no one's ever heard of. "it's like a cross between bob marley and led zeppelin with an elvis impersonator singing..."

There is a demo available from the Wizardry 8 web site, it's about 148Mb, so a bit hefty if you've on a 56Kbit modem, if you're really not sure, this is the best way to make sure.

Personally, can't recommend any other game more highly than Wiz8 to any serious CRPG player.

One complaint that many people have about it with a system like yours is extremely long load times.

It is a great game. Its in my top three definitely, maybe number one.

Not perfect. But full of content and challenge. Extremely well balanced and worked out.

Some of the graphics are very old school, sprites. Some look almost like a modern day game.

I would definitely recommend getting it. Since I bought the game I've only played one other game, and that one wasn't for too long.

i loved eye of the beholder, one of the most fun games. Not a great ending. doesnt it end by dumping you into DOS? anyway........ I heard battle sequence wasnt fun at all, ruins of myth drannor like. I never wanna go through that again...
