An old geezer out in a swamp, how important can he be? When he tried to strongarm me into doing some dirty work for him to release my bishop, I instead killed him rescued my teammate, and moved on.

At any rate, is this guy important for any reason? I got the perfume stuff he mentioned off his corpse, with some other decent stuff.

Not that I can go back or anything, he is loooong dead.

dont worry too much - there's nothing plot-critical about crock.

however, as a trader, in spite of his crap prices, he has one of the nicer item lists in the game. notably, he sells stilletos, impaling & medusa stones, amulets of healing, and ankhs of speed. also, he sells every (or nearly every) level 4 spellbook in the game.

so if you wanted any of those things, you're now out of luck. otherwise, though, you wont miss him.

Besides which, you get a nice chunk of experience for killing the frog. You ought to do that and then kill Crock, if you so desire.

Also, while it isn't widely known, the frog quest is buggy in the original release. After you kill it and bring the leg to Crock, the frog regens. You can kill it again and bring the leg back to Crock for more exp. And continue doing it until you can't stand it any more.

If you have a later version, this probably won't work.

It depends on your party. In addition to the awesome Amulets of Healing, he is a fountain of Mana Stones, too, which are real useful strategically for Magic-Heavy parties.

I have never seen the upstairs to his place.

he has a chest upstairs that occasionally gets good items. once i walked out with silver gloves and two sets of mantis gloves. that's a nice haul for a party below level 11.

Suits the devil right. I also killed him and felt wonderful. i guess that in the later parts of the game you can still find someone that will sell you spell books, so maybe it is not such a big loss.

i believe crock is the only one who sells the bulk of level 4 spellbooks. so while you can get some books from other traders, and a few may be found (eg crush at marten's bluff) there are some you wont be able to get if you didnt get them from crock before he met his end.
