Do you think a samurai with lightning strike has many attacks? It's nothing compared to my mage. At least, if he attacks his friends.
He is using no primary weapon (don't want to fight at all with a mage), but has a Sprite's Dagger in his secondary hand for the stamina regeneration. In Southeast Wildernesse, i encountered a group of crystal unicorns. Their rearing made my mage turncoat, and he attacked my other party members. He attacked with the dagger, and attacked, and attacked from behind, and attacked ... until finally, he was exhausted, and fell ko. I wasn't able to scroll back the whole combat round (too many message lines), but it was more than 83 attacks. Most missed (skill 0, no fighting stats), but some hit (for a total damage of 170+, spead out among the other members). He regained some stamina after the combat round, which granted him another 8 attacks in the next round, but then the turncoat went off. |

I think you found a new bug...
I've never counted the number of attacks for one player in a round. I've had more than ten. Your mage with a Sprite's Dagger in the left hand with no other primary weapon certainly beats the normal ones. I wonder what the best set-up is to maximize total attacks? Bloodlust? A rogue or samurai? A maxed out fighter? Faerie is likely.

Bloodlust is definitive a candidate for the fastest weapon. In my experience it is even faster than the Light Sword.
During my current game, I had this constellation: Samurai with Bloodlust: 3 swings, high Damage Bard with a bad weapon: low Damage As soon as I found the Light Sword, I switched and got this: Samurai with Light Sword: 1-2 swings, moderate Damage ![]() Bard with Bloodlust: 3 swings, high Damage Perhaps my Sam doesn't like this high-tech thing... |

I've had this happen with doubleshot slings in my mages primary - it was like a mini-gun firing. Fortunetly her ability with a sling isn't to hot so she missed a lot (but she still got in something like 20 hits out of what must have been more than 50 attacks). (It was also a good thing that she was only packing standard bullets.)
Its odd, but in addition to this it usually happens when my resistance is 100 when supposedly you will resist all magical attacks. Perhaps a few creatures can break past 100 resistance on occasion, but I've found that it happens FAR to often (another bug perhaps). And the AC vs. hit probability seems screwed up as well. In my experience, the level difference is calculated in, with say 5% per level, S o if you fight monsters 4 levels above yours, you effective resistance is 80%. In addition, sometimes they can get through your resistance. The higher your resistance, the rarer, but i don't think you're save at any point. In addition, there are things like gaze or rear attacks. It seems to me that the corresponding resistance helps, but less than against spells. Thats when mind control (or however the skill you gain at 100 piety) helps a lot. And i think some monsters might even have powercast. The death knights seem to be much more effective than other monsters, even if i'm high levels. And then a look in the other direction: I once killed a group of Rapax Warlocks, 4 levels above mine, with spells only, and without using water spells. Their resistance was 115% in all other realms (higher for fire) |

[/QUOTE]I was under the impresson, that this is a display thingie, your resistance is actually higher, but the display is capped at 100%. I mean, some monsters have resistence >= 200%, why not the player? Anyway it doesn't matter much, as you said, resistance is relative to opponents level, so these numbers are only a rough guideline, the more, the merrier. |

Wereboar and ZarahNeander, yes, actually resistance increases (not shown) past 100% up as high as 250%. However, above 250% there is a known Wizardry8 bug that it "wraps" back around to zero.
This came up when a player, posting on the vn board, ran an all magic party up to the top in Intelligence and Piety, then trained Iron Will to very high levels (using the gas chamber at LMB, I believe). She managed to get two Light Shields, with the intent of using them on her two Melee-strong Priests, but they caused her resistances to wrap back around to low levels instead, so she couldn't use them. Regarding resistances, yeah up to about 125%, unless they also cast a Shield, Powercast can be at least pretty effective (resistance of 90% is like they're naked... except bosses like SE). I find that resistances of 150% and higher are like a wall, however. I have tried my most powerful spells against resistance like that and usually get exactly zero damage. There's some randomness to it and sometimes some damage slips through but not much. |
