Recently I've gotten back into Wiz8, and after reading a bunch of stuff, I'm gonna try this party

Elf Monk
Hobbit Rogue
Human Samurai
Hobbit Ninja --> Ranger
Human Lord
Elf Bard

As you can see, I've got every kind of magic covered, as well as 5 excellent fighters. If you want to know about the ninja->ranger multiclass, it's here. I'm gonna give the Lord polearms, and the rogue's gonna take care of traps and whatnot.

Couple questions though. What would be the best race for the ninja->ranger. I can't decide between hobbit, human or elf? Faerie might be good too, cuz of CoC after multiclass. Also, what (besides music) should I build up with my bard? Thx in advance.

I think for Ninja/Ranger, your best bet is going with Elf, I believe.

Cane of Corpus is not a good weapon for this combination since it is cursed. This prevents you from switching to a ranged weapon. I would recommend using only non-cursed weapons. I would also stay away from Faerie as their str is terrible and you will need a decent strength to carry sufficient ammunition.

I'd vote for the Mook, Mook rangers can use the giant's swords which are awesome, and as a Ninja they can get the no-dachi from antone in arnika and do very good damage early on with it.

Also, if you use a "haster" character, there is no need to build up speed as Atlus suggests in the thread you mentioned. Str/Dex definitely should be first, and Senses is great too; I would probably go with Vit rather than speed, especially with a Mook. Also make a female because they get more stamina regenerating items, and things like the giant's sword and triple shot x-bows can suck up stamina in a hurry.

One last thought, it will be tough in the early going for your group without a pure caster (especially if you play in expert mode) - still doable and you'll be fine in the later parts of the game, but having to wait to have access to the buffing spells will make things harder. I kind of think the Lord isn't so great and would maybe slip a Bishop in for him. Are you going to take any RPCs along with you BTW?

Since I've never beaten the game before, I probably will. The thing is, I am very bad at using magic consistently, thus pure casters in my party are often found smacking things with their staves . I like this party cuz it has all the magics covered, without being too much of a monopoly. I'm prolly gonna bring along Madras, which would cover the problems with some higher level castings. Maybe also RFS-81 or Vi.

Well almost any party/style of play can win, especially on the easier modes, so it's up to you. But magic makes life a whole lot easier
