Buccaneers drop the LS about 2% of the time. It will take a few runs to get it, but they have a chance to drop everytime they are killed, so it is not necessary to reload the map.

Things are more likely to drop off mobs if the killing blow is big, the bigger the better. Like maybe save up a Banish, or MM for the last shot, when some of them are under 10 HP. Or make sure the one that's going next gets hit with BL, Fang, or the like.
To reload for drops, just save right before combat.
It is possible to get LS to drop from any af the BG's, even more than one! Kill them one at a time, run away to save in between. And grow some patience........

When I got to the buccaneer ghosts during my second game, I was determined to get a light sword no matter what the time. After killing those damned ghosts over 50 times, I still didn't get one, so I finally decided to go on. I went on to Bayjin, and to the chest in the hut, and what do you know...my very first light sword. I've still never seen a light shield, but I don't use much shield anyway.

I don't think Nessie ever drops anything. Is there a chest nearby that I haven't noticed?

nessie doesnt drop anything but you can find excalibur and other nice stuff in a chest near to nessie. this chest is the reason why people reload that map all the time.

Yah, it's in a little cave, it calls itself Davy Jone's Locker.
You don't even have to kill Nessie first, you can sneak in there and check to see if you want to reload, and if X-Cal is there, you can use it to help kill her.

Here's something else I would like to propose: The almost unavailability of the most powerful items and the repetition of the items you do find hurt the replayability of this game. I'm pretty sure that I'd be more interested in going through again if I felt like I would find a new complement of items waiting for me. But instead, I know I'll find the same things I did last time in the same places, for the greatest part.

The light sword is crazy powerful.

Yah, and they could move the chests around, and change the boss mobs, and put the rooms in different places...Wiz-9!
All kidding aside, many of the most powerful items are available for sale. Only LS and X-Cal are low rolls, and how would you feel if your best weapons were just spinning around in the middle of the road?

My opinion is the opposite.
I think the replay value is higher if there are some very rare items which you find only in say one game out of ten.
Then i can still hope for something new in my 20th game.

And therefor it should be only a rare exception when you find it.

I can understand people who intend to play the game only once and try to get the best items in the game. But if you want to play several times, its boring to have light sword each time.
