experimenting with stuff? You have to use the merge and see what can be made?

if you check out www.geocities.com/jandrall (or maybe one "L") you can get a list of all the recipies for the alchemist. now if you feel like trying it yourself then just merge two things together. if it says that it can't be merged then you can mix those two things, but if it says that your character can't merge those things now that means his alchemist skill isn't high enough. disappointingly, there aren't that many items that you can combine so you're probably better off checking that list out instead of experimenting.
also, at random times your alchemist will make various potions which you can't make manually. so far, i haven't been able to find what determines when the alchemist will make them but he only makes them while you rest.

45464748, you need a character with the Alchemy skill to merge potions/powders and the like.

when you reach 50 in Alchemy you can make renewal
potions. they sell for big time profit. making those also raises your Alchemy fast. real fast.
I made 60 of 'em and gained 18 pts Alchemy in
about 15 minutes!

Your alchemist will be your source of cash, but he's also really useful. A nice mix of spells -- healing and stamina, damage shields, aes, and of course death cloud is always a plus..

And remember that you get more skill enhancement by mixing five stacks of one bottle versus one stack of five bottles.

Get rid of your Alchemist? Are you nuts?

1. They have the most well-rounded offensive/defensive/healing spell selection.

On defense they have quite a few good spells. Element shield, Body of Stone, Sonic Boom and Blinding Flash are all favorites of mine.

On offense they are outstanding. Acid Splash, which really helps build up the water realm, is good through Tryton. Dragon Breath excels when you're going against swarm creatures, like mites & wasps that can take a weakened party down quickly. And there are some good AOE spells, such as acid splash and toxic cloud. And one of my offensive favorites - Summon Elemental.

As healers, Alchemist are the full monty. They can heal, cure conditions, diseases & poison, and raise the dead.

2. As a revenue source, only the Bishop comes close, and it takes the Bishop far longer to get there. A well-played Alchemist can have his or her party as well-equipped as possible, long before a Bishop can do the same.

3. As a combat participant, they are the best of the pure casters. Having the widest selection of arms & armour and the highest hit points/level.

That depends on your game play. The only guy that sells decent stuff is Ferro. As for equipment by the time my fighter reach places where I can find good stuff my bishop is the king of the hill. At level 10 they were rocking like hell. Bishops need a LOT of attention for building up, but if you do it good they grow much faster then many classes. I have 2 level 20 bishops now and they know all the level 7 spells! One of them maxed out 2 realms and the other 4 are close (very close). All the magic schools are in the +90 as well as powercast.

Alc's go up fastest of the casters, big bonus!
I like bishes, too. My last party was 6 bishes, but i turned them into fighters when i got the nukes. it's a lot of fun to berzerk your way through a bunch of rapax with all the balloons over their heads!! My newest run is with a bish, who'll become a sam later; a psi, changing to val; an alch, changing to monk and a mage changing to ninja (fairy). This way, with 4 chars casting at lest 2 books each and fighting with a special weapon, going up faster 'cuz it's only 4....They're in Arnika now, just meeting thier sources of income and advancement.....
