I've got the staff of ash from the flaming cage.
climbed back up, disarmed the trapdoor, cleared the sanctum got the stone.
I'd like to get the staff to Rafe. Can't seem to figure out how to get there. Checked the walkthrough which refers to some metal/mesh doors. Can't see these in the area of the flaming cage/sanctum.
Ideas?

Rafe is on the west side of the rift, ground level. You need to be on ground level yourself to reach him.

Basically you need to back track to where you entered the area and go left instead of right.

Rafe is in the Rapax castle - ground level - in the area to the right. I believe you get to the castle via a small pathway to the right of El Dorado's entryway. Be careful when you move toward the area that he is in, because there is usually a large group of Samarai's and fighters that will initiate combat with you and Rafe when you get near. If you don't protect Rafe, then he will get killed in the battle and you won't be able to buy stuff from him.

Good luck!

@Angua: I always open Rafe's door when I see him the first time and I return later to give him the staff. I never look after him and he gets never killed. I don't know what happened to you but my Rafe is safe even if the door is open
But tell me, what does Rafe sell ???????

Thanks, found him.

Rafe sells nothing.

Ferro, in the castle, sells stuff. He's prone to getting whacked while you try to get to him. I'm onto that problem next...

Whoops! Sorry, I was thinking about Ferro, not Rafe. Two completely different Rapax!

Ha.yes I agree, I really hate Ferro sometimes.
The warlocks, samurais and bersekers are no problem but you always have to care for him. He runs out of hitpoints and stamina and blocks the way. I never understood why Ferro helps you to fight against Rapax.. I mean they are his people.
And where should you know from, that you must give him the pickled trynnie? There is no hint that he wants that thing and the trynnie has nothing to do with the Armory key...Rapax Caslte is really strange.

You learn about Pickled Trynnie when you talk to Antone. He mentions them.
