SPOILER WARNING!!!
. . . . . . . . . . . wee... after a long time in trynton i finally kill those stupid oak guys. took me a while tho. Anyways so I can't figure out what to do next. I'm looking all around.. finally i give in a nlook at a walkthrough.. seems i was supposed to buy some mystery potion. ok i'll just go back and get it (i'm in 4th bough mind you). I'm on my way and what od i meet at the zoo? high level vile spiders and sometimes leaf/tree sprites. the vile's by themselves are pretty easy with the guards and all... then i go up. and i'm trying to get to vhe vine room and i'm going up the spiral around the tree and i see from the other side 5 tree sprites coming at me. 5! so i'm like, I gotta go up anyway maybe i can beat them. That's when my life went downhill. I right click them. THEY'RE LEVEL 10. all my chars but Vi are level 9... Then immediatly they put on eye for an eye. Ok so i can't use my mage, or any spell on them. I can't melee them cause they keep their distance, and they crush me and my party and basically in a few rounds i'm dead.... I've tried 7 times (tried sleeping many times to get them to go away) and i cna't do it. Every walkthrough i read siad i need that mystery potion. so basically i'm stuck. any help is appreciated as i probably won't be playing this game unless i get some. |

What do you have for characters? If you have a psionic, cast Insanity or a bard can use the Siren's Wail horn. If you have potions like Superman and Eye for Eye potions, use them. Buff up your group. Cast Magic Screen if you can or cast Silence on the sprites. Mainly, you need to engage them in melee. There are lots of strategies to try and the walkthrus can't give all the possiblities.
Don't give up...this game is too fun and there is so much more to see and get through! Good Luck. I'm rooting for you! Mark |

I guess the thing to do is to avoid that fight and gain some levels, then come back when you characters are a little stronger.

Could you keep going up and escape down the rope on the 6th to the bottom? Then reenter the tree, and get the potion on lvl 2....perhaps...

One more thing...tree sprites have few hitpoints (22-32 I think). I would hit them with a low level mass damage spell (like Magic Missile). The backlash from Eye for Eye can't possibly kill your group.
Mark EDIT Oops! If they cast Eye For Eye, don't cast Insanity...it will bounce back....sorry about that. [ 02-17-2002: Message edited by: skywalker ] |

Spoilers:
. . . . . . . . . . Heres a couple of ideas; Tree Sprites cannot take a hit very well at all. Run at them AS FAST AS YOU CAN. Don't let them have time to cast spells on you. Put all your archers in the front and make pin coushins out of them and use all your long distance weapons/spells Cast all your protective spells before your encounters Blind and paralize them Run around and wait for some troops to come by and help you. It gets rough ahead of you but just try some different tactical plans and you will be alright ![]() |

I've had little or no problems this time around against those little suckers. Here is what I do:
- have a full strength magic screen running before I engage them - have chameleon running as well to be as close to them as possible before they notice me and go into combat - round one, *important*, don't walk/run!! i've noticed when you do that your initiative is horrible. you'll be letting all of them cast things like haste, eye for an eye, or offensive spells at you, before you even get to move. - instead, cast these 2 spells: insanity (my monk does it); and blinding flash (my bishop). have everyone else make their best ranged attacks, maybe have someone cast bless or haste, or some other buffing spell if you have it. - round two, run in to melee range, then clean up! i took mostly 0 damage from them with my new party. if you don't have magic screen btw, go back to arnika and buy it in the temple from braffit, always, always cast it after you rest, should be up all the time..

My battle strategy against magic using critters:
1. Ensure I have Magic Screen already cast, as well as Armorplate, Enchanted Blade and Missile Screen (the four basic tenets) 2. Hide around corner so they get as close as possible before they spot me and hence engage. 3. First round cast Element Shield, Soul Shield and Bless. The first two in particular, combined with Magic Screen, gave me important protection. Most magic user enemies spend the first round casting defensive spells as well, so you don't normally have to put up with too much damage. Archers should target nearest spell casters. Later in the game my spare mage would cast target-specific spells like Crush to reduce the number of retaliations from an early stage. With decent defensive magic, Crush never seemed to affect me if eye for an eye was in effect, but use with caution otherwise. 4. Second round run (or walk if you're close enough) and get into melee range for the fighter et al. Third round walk if you're not quite close enough. 5. Third round is when I really start causing damage! That worked for my party, at least. krok |

Oh, and I forgot to mention - in Trynton, I never fought a battle without help from the Trynnies if it was possible. Mostly it's just a case of waiting around for a patrol to turn up. Learn the patrol routes - those guys can be real life savers.

sorry for not responding (work then went to see black hawk down... good movie).
anyways I dont' want to quit because I am having sooo much fun playing this right now. My team is: 2 rogues (ones the one i pick up outside of arnika), a lord, Vi, a gageteer, mage, ranger, and a priest. The main problem is they see me coming from the bottom of the spiral and i can't tell if there are trynnies around (i do usually have them help). Anyways i just got home so i'm going to try to beat these things. Somehow my duct tape disappeared after one battle, if i just had that. and now that i think about it i think i have a book of magic screen but i'm not sure... |
