______UPDATED 11.02.02_______
Sorry for the weird format. Couldn't get the HTML any better. Believe me, it looks quite different in my IE explorer. It's quite convenient for spoilers though. Anyway, below you'll find a table where to get the spell books up to spell level 4. So don't read any further unless you want to become spoilt. I just noticed that this post is still referenced, so I made some addditions for your reference about what I found out meanwhile...
Almost all (maybe even all, I'm not certain) level 5 spells can be acquired from Ferro in the Rapax Castle. Getting there isn't easy though. Check out e.g. http://users.bigpond.net.au/ea which spells these are. You probably also have to be on a certain charcter level, see below for Crock. In order to buy the books from crock, your spellcasters have to be Level 11. COULD also be that you must have been through Trynton (and solved the breader quest). You can pickpocket SOME (limited supply) of the books before level 11, though. I also advice you NOT to kill Crock after the "kidnap mission" as others suggest. He has an unlimited supply of Ankhs of Speed (sleep often ![]() Two complete sets of Portals can ALLWAYS be found in the northern wilderness and somewhere in Mt. Gigas i.e. they can be easily acquired early in the game. Two Banish spells (level 6) can be found: Sourceress Queen and on the beach (Swamp). There are no level 6 and 7 spells to be bought and probably also not to be found. There are some books (3 or 4) guaranteed in the monastary, but not allways the same. I would appreciate, if someone of you could tell me how to prevent the unintended and far too huge gap in this message. Basically, all I did was writing the text above and included the table via the tags table and /table. I have no idea why this resulted in such a huge gap. Thanks for all your replies, the source you may view looks obviously different from what I typed here. E.g., there isn't a single in my source. [ 02-13-2002: Message edited by: John Doe ] |

Thanks for posting this. It does help to know which early spells I can buy, makes choosing easier!
Does anyone know where some of the books can be found (as opposed to purchased)? Or is that random, other than Light which is found in the Monastery? judee |

I found that pickpocketing chars that normally sell spellbooks can occasionally yield incredible finds. Once, from Lord Braffit, I got a Book of Banishing(L6 spell) from pickpocketing. My casters arent high enough in Level to even use it yet...

First of all, great post! I've been looking for info like this. I tried to print it out, but since it didn't work from-IE, I copied it into WordPad, messed with it a bit, and got my own nice little table that I can print out (along with some notes with info from here). Thanks again.
![]() Also, IIRC, wasn't Chameleon somewhere in the Lower Monestary? I swear, I can remember finding that in the demo and I think even when I made my first party after buying the game. However, since then, I redid my entire comp (intalled some hardware and WinME) and only just now reinstalled W8. This time around, I'm trying to prepare better for my Bishop spell-wise, since he'll be my only pure caster. I'll have to echo judee's question (what books can be found where, other than buying?). Also, curious where the other... 2 people are? Minor spoilers regarding where people are are okie with me. |

I figured out what is causing this huge space before your table. Somehow a lot of extraneous < br > tags got inserted into your table between the other tags. For example: you have one after the < table > tag and before the < tr > tag and so on. All of those extra linebreaks are being put into the page before the table is being rendered. If you can get rid of those (Best bet is to copy it out to Wordpad and do a search & replace) then you'll eliminate the gap.

A very helpful post!
Ferro at the Rapax Castle sells books, too! In my game, he's currently selling Book of Freeze All (level 5) 18,000 Book of Dessication [Dehydrate] (level 5) 16,000 Book of Psionic Blast (level 5) 16,000 Book of Toxic Cloud (level 5) 16,000 Of course, he may carry other books as well! Good thing they aren't in Rapax
