I don't understand the point of equipping cursed items. Since you can't switch to a missle weapon when equipped with Bloodlust, for example, the character is useless until you are toe-to-toe with the enemy. I have two Swords of the Four Winds, Bloodlust, Ravenbill, etc... and they are all worthless to me. (All my characters are skilled in ranged combat.)

Your front line should be all melee combat characters. Their primary skills are melee, so giving them a cursed melee weapon that increass their damage output improves their combat ability. They will miss out on a round or two of ranged attacks per combat, maybe 20 damage total, per round, but their melee damage can be increased by 30 or more damage each per round. My fighter and monk have weak ranged combat skills, so they rarely hit with bows or thrown weapons anyway.

I used bloodlust for awhile but gave it up after i got Fang and the Ivory blade. I consider both to be superior to bloodlust. My front line is a Fighter with the Ivory blade, a Lord/samurai with Fang, and a ninja who doesn't need a weapon. And neither of those weapons is a random drop.

Give them the best swords you have, and ranged weapons for their alternate weapons...
So when ya get in a fight, they use regular swords. However in big combat, have the first command you do is EQUIP, and throw on the cursed items once ya get into melee. after melee, remove them with the remove curse and repeat and rise.

About useing cursed Bloodlust for a front line fighter....
I have never lost a battle where I thought to myself...geez if only he could have equipped a bow while that monster was farther away. Course my party is only around 12th level so I have time to regret this still |

quote: Yes, I and my group of 25th level characters are well aware of that. Consider this: (I have two fighters, a Priest/Valkyrie, and three Bishops) When I see a group of monsters far in the distance, I initiate combat and start lobbing long-range area-of-effect spells into their midst. When they get in normal attack range, I continue with the spells, and the three fighters use their bows, which they are highly skilled with (and occassional score a KO or instant kill.) Then when the monsters are within rushing distance (one turn of Run), I rush them and beserk on them while the Bishops provide support, incapacitation, or direct damage spells. So for my strategy, cursed items are useless unless I want to waste an equip round as was mentioned.

Well, everyone has their own methods, there's no doubt. I like to use a lot of magic (blast from a distance), and have my Valkyrie, Lord, Ranger (when I wanna save arrows [with easier monsters]) all cast their distance spells (since this is really the only time I use any of their spells, thus bringing up their spell abilities, rather than equipping them with bows and arrows). While my wife is very different. She had everyone who can use and arrow, have them ready. But rather than plucking away from a distance, she much prefers direct melee combat with swords (she has some powerful fighter types with some nice, nice weapons - one of them, ironically being Bloodlust, which is pretty insane in a lizardman/fighter's hand)!

I dont know about you guys but the bloodlust kicks ass..
My H-Sam swings like 5 times per turn and 2 turns per round, plus he criticals once in a while. he doesnt even have high strenght yet. all speed and dex. doenst even bother to use a ranged attack. cast sleep when round starts just for the hell of it. I get criticals all the time know with 3 of my charachters F-Nin get them with her throwing plus she has the CoC on the other hand for close up battles. thats a cursed weapon that doesnt seem like a curse to me. Plus my M-Ran gets criticals all the time with her enchanted bow and has the mystic spear for any close ups. plus my L-Fig is just one big quasi-lord wrecking ball as my only guy with both powerstrike and iron skin, this guy never loses more than a few hp's. ok he's not a lord but he uses the demonsbane and demonsting so guess what he does against the unndead. then i have my R-Pri soon to be Lord and my F-Mage soon to be Bishop (ok maybe not so soon) lobbing magic all over the place just for fun. all leve 11-12 just finished trynton debating between going to the bluff or the cemetary(i want to play w/ my fighter over there). Life is good in Llygamin errrr............. Dominus I wish the game was still set in the worlds of the first 3 games.... one can only dream [ 01-28-2002: Message edited by: Bad Mr. Frosty ]

I had a Samurai using Bloodlust for awhile until I realized that ever since I gave it to him, he stopped getting lightning strikes. If anyone has seen a Samurai get a lightning strike while wielding Bloodlust, speak up, but I think the berserk feature overrides the skill, which is bad.

Not sure about Samurais and lightning strikes with Bloodlust, I don't think I've seen it either. Actually I was only seeing them early in the game when he had the katana/wakizashi equipped, might go buy the enchanted katana (found the enchanted wakizashi) and try them together for a while to see if it raises lightning strikes. Now he has fang and I haven't seen it lightning strike either. He still does alot of damage so I haven't missed it
![]() For a samurai I think bloodlust is perfect early on. Why would you want a cursed item for a fighter type? For the Samurai, you then use his magic as his ranged combat option, you'll help build his magic skills which are better for him than a bow. He basically becomes a fighter who can cast spells because he beserk mode attacks. Fang does enough damage that I don't need to beserk, now I have him dual throwing shuriken as secondary weapons, mostly just to make sure he never goes idle and to help pump the dual weapons skill.
