In wiz 7 I sided with Umpani because I wanted to learn the Firearms skill. This time around I was thinking of siding with T'Rang for something different. The only hesitation I have about either joining side is what do you miss out on. My guess so far is that in this Umpani vs T'Rang war, both are there simply to gain extra experience points. If our overall objective is to get from point 'A'
to point 'D', we can choose path A-B-D where B=Umpani side or A-C-D where C=T'Rang. Has anybody explored these avenues yet in terms of all the pluses and minuses for joining a side.

TIA

Be a double agent.

The only thing you really have to do is start both processes... and perhaps give a little something to a certain gossipy barkeep...

Why be a double agent? Its a pretty stupid reason, but if you do both sides you get twice the exp...
Actually, there is justification for it because you can get an alliance between both factions. In the game world I'm not really sure how long it might last, but hey.

If I had to choose one though, I'd pick the Umpani just because the T'Rang look so dang weird... And, they sell Blunder Buss at their base, which is my favorite ranged weapon.

I was working for T'rang and headed over to Umpani Fort to look for the Missing T'Rang Z'Ant mentioned. While there I did "the double agent" thing and did a few Umpani quest (ie got to the point where I got the level 3 security pass. I then went back to T'Rang base and Z'Ant accuses me of betrayal and T'Rang go hostile

It seems you can only do a few of the beginning quests as double agent before one can turn on you.

But thanks for the input about the Blunder Buss, that is definitely a plus !!

The T'Rang double agent that rats you out works in the commisary...big guy with a bad attitude? Kill him, pay off the "gossipy barkeep" and the secret remains yours.
You'll also get EP's for telling Balbrak he is a spy...you just lose being able to buy from the commisary anymore...no cashier and all.

I just have a question regarding the T'Rang double agent mentioned below. How do you kill him without getting the other Umpani hostile on you?

Thanks and I appreciate it.

I never had to kill the cashier, though I'm still not certain exactly why - it seems everyone else had to. The only thing that I can remember doing differently than the norm that I usually see posted here is actually accusing the cashier of being a traitor. Whether or not this makes any difference whatsoever is untested though - I haven't gotten back up to that point yet in my second game.

Killing him shouldn't aggro the Umpani though, technically he's just a traitor anyway. I don't think he's officially part of the Umpani faction - but if you're going to eliminate him you're way better off going to Sergeant Balbrak and turning him in. If I remember correctly, you get something like 75,000 exp. for doing it (and the cashier disappears quite conveniently too). Just mention the cashier's name to Balbrak, and then inform him that he is a traitor.

If you are going to turn him in, Balbrak requires proof. Usually the fake ID that he carries is the proof that you need. There are two ways that I know of to get it. One is to pickpocket it. But he is not easy to pickpocket from. So you have to practice up on it. I never did do much pickpocketing so I had to kill him. I accused him of being a traitor and then tried to pickpocket him. He attacked and I defended. No one else turned red, and everyone was still friendly to me after the battle. However, when I pressed the red button, everyone got mad.

Good Luck,
Knarfling

There's another way to get the fake ID, which I did in my first game before restarting (I'm getting worried reading about folks who get ratted out on, that never happened to me, and I'm not sure what I did).

Spoilers below, but there's already tons of spoiler space. Stop now if you want.

When you get the T'Rang mission to destroy the Umpani base, give Kunar the secret message that Z'Ant gave you, and he'll give you his fake ID to get to the Umpani airfield, plus you'll get 20,000 exp. Then go across the street and give the fake ID to Balbrak and you'll get another 75,000 exp and get Kunar out of the picture.

After doing this I TP'd back to Z'Ant to make sure everything was kosher, and they didn't suspect anything. I restarted shortly after this, so there may be other consequences, but as far as I can tell this maximizes the reward for the final T'Rang mission without actually following through...

I got both to the point of the Bajin quests wothout any problems. I got the Trang quest to get the Umpani flag. I joing the Umpani but didn't do any of their quests. I went to Kunar and bought the fake Umpani flag (you must at least join to get the flag.) I then compleated all the Trang quests through getting the Bejin quests. I then went did all of the Umpani quests through gtting the Bejin quest. Thats as far as I got that party, but I at least got both Mook alliances without anyone trying to kill me.

NOW: when I ran another party doing both Umpani and T'rang quests in parallel, and guess what, someone finked on me. All it really means is a loss of exp for doing some T'rang quests. I got the teleporter anyway (the hard way) by killing the guards. The odd thing is that even though the T'rang leader denounced me I could still walk aroung their base without being attacked.
