(posting here because this is probably where this belongs)
Just had to share... at a local bookstore here, they had some festivities on Friday night for the release of the last book in the Lemony Snicket Series of Unfortunate Events books. My daughter's been into them, so we had to go... Hundreds of people... madness... chaos... but fun for kids. They had a scavenger hunt, word search, and invention contest, where you just had to make an invention of some sort. Somehow, it fell to me to work with my daughter to come up with some sort of invention. We came up with a Count Olaf detector... somewhat like a divining rod, and just pretty straightforward. Count Olaf, for those unaware, is the bad guy in the series, and is always disguising himself as someone else. She was the last one to explain her invention to the judges, and they decided that she was the best inventor! She won a free copy of the book, which saved us $14 right off the bat ![]() It definitely made for a great finish to the evening, in spite of the disorganized mess that surrounded us. Anyway, kudos to my daughter! Anyone else read / enjoy Lemony Snicket, or am I the only one?

Really cool happening there, Bungleau. That is a memory for both you and your daughter for the remainder of your years.
Can't say I read the books, though. |

I read the first book to my daughter when she was still a baby - it took a LONG time, and I quickly switched to shorter stories after that, but it was pretty good and I'll steer her in that direction when she's older (she just turned three, so we have a while...).
Not going to repeat that for my newborn, though. Sticking with the quick and easy reads, thank you. |

Been thinking about getting the books. We liked the movie, and I just learned last week that there is actually a set! I'll consider it moreso now that you've mentioned them.

I must say that I did read the first few or first six.. but I found that they started to get very repetitive. I started to get through the seventh one, but lost interest.
I could never imagine making it through 13 of them.. |
