I think the whole series of books isn't too bad except God Emporer, which got my nomination in Memnoch's hilarious worst book ever read thread thats kicking around this forum somewhere. I actually quite liked Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune was outstanding in my opinion. Heretics and Chapter House were less good as they both rambled a bit, but still worth reading if you're a fan of the rest of the stuff.

Haven't got round to reading any of the prequels as of yet, but plan to at some point in time.

I didn't know those characters were originally 8-9 years old, as the story was changed to fit teenagers and 20 years old in it.
minor spoiler: (I don't know whether it was in the film)

In the book the children of Muad'Dib are of the preborn, already conscious at birth, and get lots of problems for knowing things no child at their age could (much like Alia). and are called adults in childrens bodies.

well, i am going to be the devils advocate here, just to throw a curve ball.heheheh

Even though I haven't read the books in many a year, there was a time when I did have one or two and they got a good reading and rereading.

Whilst not denying the fact that there is true genius in the books, it was for me personally very hard to warm up to the novels.

I found his writing style both over complicated disjointed in places some times just plain tedious. i never felt it was story that inspired and moved me. It left me somewhat upset as everyone raves at it being such a classic and here I was just not appreciating it. Then again, some people think LOTR is boring too.

The first time I tried reading the books (at the age of 9) I just could not finish them because they were probably just too complicated at that age. But then later they turned out to be my favourite books. And now I read the whole series at least once each year.
