If you've played D&D games such as Baldurs Gate, you already know the 'basics' of the Realms. Personally, I started with the Dark Elf trilogy, and was introduced to Fearun by Drizzt do Urden.

I strongly suggest with the Icewind Dale Trilogy or The Crystal Shard. Those are the first I read and I am hooked on them.

The Icewind Dale Trilogy was my first as well, and I hated reading before I got these books. After that, I picked up any book I could find. Now I own them all! Definately start with the Icewind Dale Trilogy.

Here...Get this, which is the combined trilogy in one binding. It is worth the money.

Actually, the Dark Elf trilogy (although it was published later) starts before the Icewind Dale trilogy. Which makes it a good starting point.

Id say go for Dark Elf Trilogy first, makes understanding Drizzt in Icewind Dale Trilogy that much better.
