I wouldn't say that
Although Helena is the reason for the whole Trojan war, Briseis is the reason for most of the plot of Homer's Ilias.
If Agamemnon hadn't taken her from Achilles, Achilles wouldn't have stopped fighting, thus Patroklos wouldn't have tried to lead the Greeks, thus Hector wouldn't have killed Patroklos, thus Achill wouldn't have returned to duel Hector and killed him. Which about sums up the main plot of the Ilias which ends with Hector's funeral

</font>
I think Tancred was referring to her actual presence in the poem, which is, as he says, minimal. Her influence is much greater. But she's only seen a few times

Heh heh! It keeps renaming itself 'test' in the window bar... but when I saw the title for what it was, I roared with laughter. Oh dear! NOT a good start...

On another note, I suppose 'Troy' is about the catchiest transliteration of 'The Iliad' you can get.

I am also a fan of Greek mythology, and if Troy is close to the Iliad, then I will definitely like it.
Why? I loved the Iliad as a poem, but filmed more or less straight it would make a *terrible* movie! </font>
LOL, wouldn't it? Book 2 would make for some stirring scenes!

Actually I heard that two Alexander the Greats were being made - one with Leonardo DiCaprio and Nicole Kidman, and one with Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie. I dunno how that's going to work.
</font>
Hmm... I thought they were the same film? One of my professors is a consultant for the Farrell/Jolie one, I'll ask him.

No - supposedly Leo and Colin are both playing Alexander, and Angelina and Nicole are playing Olympias. I know this from reading gossip magazines, so I know it's totally accurate

Hmmm... reading these posts, I've decided I need to read the Iliad again in order to be qualified to post on this thread. You guys really know a lot about it.

I'd say Angelina and Nicole would both be playing Roxane, who was Alexander the Great's wife (and a Persian princess).

No, Angelina is definitely playing Olympias, Alexander's mother, regardless of what Nicole is doing. Val Kilmer is playing King Philip. The role of Roxanne would be really small - they didn't do that whole marriage thing for a long time after they went into Asia.
