Same here, I just bring Xan along for comic relief. His inability to cast magic missile makes him a tad ill used at lower levels, but once you get higher level spells he get's better. Next to that his sword rocks for lower level characters, so for BG he's just fine. I've actually never used Dynaheir.

actual power aside, Xan is the only mage NPC with a genuinly good character. And his vocals are the best!

Its been a long time since i've played BG1 but i don't remember the moonblade being any good considering the only person who can use it is a mage with a miniscule number of hit point- a nice weapon but not really in the right hands

I haven't frequented these boards in awhile but I will say this about Xan.

His death vocal and the vocal of him getting hit sound strikingly similiar to Drizzt. That was all I needed. Unfortunately, you don't get the same satisfaction to hear that noise when Xan dies as when you kill Drizzt.
