I finished the Icewind dale and Dark elf trilogies. I saw the next series by Salvatore is Cleric Quintet. It appears this breaks away from Drizzt and the Drow legacy then picks back up with Drizzt. Is this correct?
I'm considering taking a look at starting the Elminster series.
I'll be disclosing a few spoilers here regarding the Icewind Dale and Dark Elf trilogy....

I was a bit disppointed in the finish of both of those trilogies because of the way Drizzt never did face the main foe in either trilogies. I felt kind of like it was a cop out or something. Do things continue to go this way with Drizzt and his stories? I don't really care for this "battling within himself" approach.

Hence the reason for considering to reading something else for a while.

After the two trilogies you mentioned, the next book about Drizzt picks up with Legacy, Starless Night, Siege of Darkness, the Silent Blade, the Spine of the World, Servant of the Shard, and Sea of Swords.

I believe a new trilogy has began with the release of "the Thousand Orcs", available only in hardback currently.

The cleric quintet is very good, Cadderly does not meet Drizzt, or even hear of him until the series is ended and one of the later Drizzt books introduces them to each other.

I've heard very few good reports of the Elminster books, although most of the ones I have heard are from younger readers who enjoy the relatively pornographic descriptions, as EVERY female character ends up either completely naked, or nearly so for no apparent reason, such things are tolerable, and even enjoyable if they further the plot, but Greenwoods prose is irritating and unexplainable, everything in El's path is destroyed by "an explosive burst of magical energy" there is no mention of which spells he casts to accomplish the destruction, Memnoch has some very good review of Ed Greenwoods books.

in the later Drizzt books, he confronts the primary villains of each series, although one villain is left with little closure...

Thanks much for the comeback. Yes I use the wizards.com site to reference the books. As you can see here:

the next series in Salvatore's line is the cleric quintet series. I was out running a few errands and decided to stop at B&N this evening. Morgeruat, unfortunately I didn't get to read your post before getting to the book store. I went ahead and picked up the first 4 of the Elminster series. Starting with the making of a mage and ending with Elminster in Hell. According to the guide these are the first 4 books of him. The other thing was they didn't have the Cleric quintet series. They did have the Drow Legacy series in one large paperback. I suppose once I finish Elminster I will return to the adventures of Drizzt.
I'm actually very interested to read about further battles with the Spider Queen. Anyone see a problem with skipping the Cleric series and jumping into the Drow Legacy?

there shouldn't be a problem, aside from a few cameo's from the characters from the cleric quintet the drizzt books are completely unrelated to the cleric quintet (the cleric quintet was Salvatores chance to write about a Monk, but due to 2nd edition D&D coming out before he started writing the idea had to be dropped, as it was something not included in the PnP version of the game, so he made his monk a secondary character, and wrote about a cleric like he was told to.) I believe the books can be found individually as well as in a 5 book compilation (I own the 5 book set)

I myself just finished the Elminster novels (with the exception of Elminster In Hell), they're all very good in my own opinion. Lol, Morgeraut is right when there is a naked person in almost EVERY chapter. But it is tolerable though, nothing really sick that might give you nightmares about a 500 year old butt-naked mage or anything.

I only like the first Elminister book. The rest is down hill all the way and too long and boring imo.

Anyways, I will recommand Elaine Cunningham's books. She's a great author. RA Salvatore's books just seem to repeat themselves after some time though his first few books are great. His later few books all has the same plot which consist of a great swordman etc challenging Drizzt and Drizzt defeating him and so on and so fro.

Sorry for my babbling, but I am just really disappointed by RA Salvatore as I felt that he could do much better than that.
