i cast improved invis on dynaheir, gave her wand of lightning and monster summning, she sneaks downstairs, goes to back of room and lightnings the back 4 cultists. summon 2 squads of monsters then have thief use ring of invis and come downstairs for monsters to target front two cultists. have to get out of range of tracea or she casts spells when she sees monsters, so i have to time thief moving to bck of room. works great all cultists down, just before monsters fade. summon two more squads and have thief jog in and out of range to target tracea with monsters. works perfectly, i kill them all before they can even begin their nasty ritual, but i dont get to fight the baddie. oh well, no biggie, prevention is good enough... but i go to hurgan and he says something like, i have to hurry or they will begin the ritual. i dont get the ending totsc stuff although i thikn i have done it all. dont thikn i miss out on anythign this way besides the 16k exp do i? and a few dozen reloads?

When you "beat" a tough battle by hotwiring the system and ensuring that it never even takes place, that's called breaking the plot.
Congratulations, you've broken the plot. No surprise that you've got a bug now. You don't like bugs? Well then, go beat the tough battle.

This should have come with a spoiler tag really BlackPeter.
I don't think he's got a bug Six, I just think he's asking what he's missed out on by slamming the encounter before it takes place. Not a lot is the answer, but it doesn't make for a good game now does it...? Of course I should say that once you know what's going on it's not that difficult a fight. Killing all of the cultists in Ulgoth's without killing an NPC is more of a challenge - particularly when they...(SPOILER) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -steal Soultaker off you anyway. well i thought the goal was to prevent the monster from rampaging, and seems like its just as effective if you stop the ritual rather than let it loose, then deal with it. dont have to kill everything to accomplish a goal right? i feel like i stuck to the plotline of the encounter. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and all that. my main regret is i didnt get the exp, but im pretty close to the cap anyway so really the only thing troubling me is that i dont get the finishing remarks for the totsc, so im not positive that i did everything.

The "bug" is how Hurgan thinks the battle hasn't happened yet (and you know, he's right).
True, BlackPeter, it is morally better to make sure that the beastie never gets summoned in the first place, and killing the extra Cultists first is certainly easier than fighting the beastie, but you ignored a few key things: 1. You know what you know because of Reload Knowledge. How the heck do your characters know that killing Aec'Letec is pointless when there are still bodies he can inhabit? 2. A reasonable person would not sneak downstairs and start killing people before they even turned Hostile. No, they would likely go downstairs, see some serious mojo comin' down, and start taking names on their own account. 3. If the designers script something to happen the instant you come within sight range of it, that's usually because it is meant to happen. If this were BG2, that Priestess would be guaranteed to see through Invisibility.

If you really want an easy end to the fight there are some very cheesy ways of doing it without mucking up the plot the way you seem to have. Cloudkill can kill the demon instantly (if his MR fails) and a stealty archer can take all the cultists down beforehand without the demon even seeing you. It's rubbish roleplay though, you may as well just kill him with cheat keys...
