Hi All, this is my first post to this forum, so please excuse a new player his ignorance!

I've just started my first game and have completed the Nashkel Mines and the Gnoll Fortress. My characters are approx level 3, and I am just starting to get my hands on a few magic arrows (arrows +1, arrows of biting etc)

My problem is that if I put the magic arrows into my missile slots on the inventory page, they will automatically get fired the next time I use my bow. But, I might only want to use them against certain enemies, not against everything I meet.

For instance, in a big battle I might want to use magic arrows against the vampire wolf, but then switch to normal arrows against the normal wolves. How can I switch quickly between arrow types without having to switch back to the inventory screen mid-fight all the time.

Any solutions?

Cheers.

Question Mark

Welcome to Ironworks, Orbost!

I believe that if you left-click (or is that a right-click? ) on your equipped bow in the interface, you may choose which set of arrows will be loaded into the bow. This will give you reasonably fast method of switching ammunition.

It is right-clicking that switches the type of ammo. Left-clicking just selects the current item. Any time you have multiple modes/ammo/abilities under the same icon (ex. using the bow with different arrows in your ammo slots, but also wands with two different functions, weapons that can be used melee or ranged, etc.), just right-click on the button on the bottom of the screen, and it should let you pick which ammo to use.

Other than the welcome, I have nothing else to add since Nerull is right. It doesn't hurt to have magical arrows in all of your slots if you can afford it. It's a good idea to hold on to spare arrows. You can save some of your inventory slots by placing the spare arrows in another character's arrow slots if they don't have a missile weapon equiped.

Cheers for the advice guys. I'll give it a go tonight.

Don't have much cash at the moment, so my only magic arrows are what I can grab from the bad guys. Trust me - I'll be filling up with magic asap!

Loving the game so far....

welcome to Ironworks and welcome to the Sword Coast

i always say this but try to avoid being tempted to hang around here too much until you've played the game through - you will pick up spoilers and that's a shame

general spoiler-free advise (to BG1 and BG2) can be found at forum member Six of Spades' guide here

Don't worry - I'm being very selective in the threads that I read!

Thanks for the link, btw.

If you do put magical arrows in all your slots you'd best be sure that you don't use your bow against the innumberable feeble enemies you run into. Much as it might be satisfying to blast 3 gibberlings with arrows of biting I don't think anyone can ever afford to kill them that way. If you don't have nomral arrows make sure you take the gibberlings with your sword!

Generally by the end of the game I have more than enough magic arrows to fill all of my quiver slots (and then some). This is probably because I am a terrible hoarder of items, including arrows, potions, wands, etc. I keep holding on to them thinking I'll need them more in the future, then I never end up using them!
