Ok, in an effort to improve the quality of my dvd movies, and to make NWN's run a bit smoother, I added 512mb of ram to my system.
Basic specs:
Intel Pent 4 at 2.04 GHz
768 mb ram
128 mb FX5200 vid card, with current drivers
Why post this here? When I leave the Inn, it still takes me about 2 minutes to get out the door, which is down from the 3 minutes it used to take, but...I'm at a loss as to what else I can do. Video settings are set by the game, based on hardware configuration. I'm at a loss as to what else I can change.

Just to clarify - do you mean that the screen refreshes so slowly that it takes you two minutes to reach the door, or is it a connection speed issue with the time it takes to load the exterior?

The auto vid settings for NWN's are usually too high. Make sure antaliasing is off. Rerun the hardware wizard too btw.

I have 1gig of G.skill ram, and a 6800gt, and the Inn is super fast, but the loadtime to the city is slow sometimes. Its NWN's engine. I'm redoing Waterdeep though after the hak is done, with smaller areas cut up to make one big city, so it'll make load times normal again.

I hate it too

I'll check the antialiasing, but I don't think I ever turned it on...default is off, isn't it? I don't think it's a connection thing, I'm on cable, and that's the only time, think it's like Z said, and is an engine issue. I load into all the other areas fine. It's just the load times into Waterdeep that really drag.

Yeah I have about the same specs as you do and Waterdeep as always been slow to load. Guess it because of all the scripts and placables in that area.

Reran the wizard, and it was missing 64mb of video ram, but didn't make a lot of difference when I tested it. I'm pretty sure Z must be right, and it's an engine problem. I load into Waterdeep just fast enough to watch the water get drawn, if I'm coming out of the inn.

Oh I thought you were talking of FPS in your OP. Yes, the engine can't really handle huge/detailed areas as well as we'd like it to, something we gotta live with.

That was something I noticed in the short time I played with the toolset (I had planned on making a Might and Magic 6 mod)

Huge areas...take forever to load. And this was in a mod with 3 areas, much less the hundreds I'm sure Z has.

I need to find places that sell AGP 8x cards which are better than a ATI Radeon 9600 and still under $200. so far my personal favourite is failing me (Canada Computers inside of Toronto) so I may try to venture further. has anyone here used TigerDirect before or NCIX? and if so, have they offered better prices than what you have found in your home town?
