Xan is ok, but you're not missing out on too much. His personality is really the best part, and even that gets on my nerves after a while.

As an enchanter, he's missing out on some nice attack spells. His moonblade is cool and all, nice fire resistance bonus, but the problem is he keeps charging into hand-to-hand combat which is exactly where he does NOT need to go with his miserable HP and AC. I don't know how many times I've had to reload because Xan charged some stupid Kobold who shot at him with arrows before I had a chance to move him out of danger and tell him to CAST SPELLS!

I wonder why he turned hostile, man? :3

Xan (as all can see) is my favorite NPC. I, personally, prefer him over Edwin but I am in the minority there.

You can beat the game without him. Many have.

But then you'd just end up breaking your moniter and that wouldn't be good for anyone.

Tsk Tsk, more empty headed anti-Xan zealots abound I see.

Guns to the head indeed. I'm almost sure that if a gun was given to Xan he'd almost consider doing the job himself, 'specially since there's so much irrational hatred towards him and all.

After all, the world is a miserable place, is it not?

Oh well. Some people just don't get it do they Xan?

Anti-Xans: Your quest is vain

Xan kicks ass, as does Kagain: the only thing better than gold, is MORE gold.

Well firstly XAN is not to the EAST of MULAHEY he is in the cavern above MULAHEYS chamber.

* I don't understand how XAN could of turned hostile unless you somehow cast an area effect spell but then again you spoke to him first right???

Thats why for this reason even if I have party AI on and customised scripts I use the handy space bar PAUSE to reissue commands depending on the situation or if a character is starting to die (like quaff down a potion or cast a healing spell or just in case I might accidentally kill an innocent bystander in the street thats caught in the crossfire) as I see fit. Change of TACTICS is maybe necessary even if it stops the flow of combat and makes slower and more boring. Try changing your XAN script to mage DEFENSIVE or Ranged attack.

* I think its is possible for you to recreate NPC's with CLUA Console if you really wanted to.

* yeah only thing I don't like about XAN is he can't memorise fireballs, magic missiles or lightning bolts, his character is a little bit too gloomy (you need someone to boost the morale of the party when the going gets tough and the dark side threatens to overwhelm you???), Edwin is evil in a very funny sort of way but the evil character I like the most is SHAR-TEEL the man-hater, she ROCKS! and SAFANA is cool!

Alright, quick question. In BGI, do the NPCs ever have banters and interjections?

They will sometimes say things to one another, but that doesn't pause the game like it does in BG2. It just appears in the Text Window, and if other things are happening, you might miss it.

Some NPCs are geared to say their stuff in response to others, so it's combinations of NPCs that can get talkative. Some sets include pairing Khalid & Jaheira with Xzar & Montaron, or Shar-Teel with Eldoth, or Tiax with Quayle.
