Suggestions for a new character

I have BG and TOSC for a while and have been through the whole story once. I just bought a SOA and TOB combination package. I want to start from the beginning and carry the character through the entire series.

What character would you recommend?

What mods should I use? I have Baldurdash and the Ease-of-use mods currently installed...

are you planning on soloing? I think it would also be worthwhile for you to download bgt or bg tutu aswell. Do you know what they are? If not then I'l explain.

Also, what character were you the first time, and did you have fun with it?

I wasn't planning on soloing...

I have seen posts on Ironworks for bgt and bg tutu but I have not tried them personally.

The character was a ranger IIRC...I had to use fighters at first until I found the PC did not have to take the top slot... my mages kept dying

I started again with a Bard but I am having second thoughts ... maybe I shoud try someone who can dual class...

How about a Fighter? Then in BG 2 you choose the Kensai kit and dual him to oh so powerful Mage.

I recently tried an assassin-type character - clad in black with a custom portrait and sound set, specializing in stealth, invisibility, speed, and backstabbing. I had great fun, and the character was more powerful than I'd have imagined beforehand. You should definitely give that a go sometime.

As far as mods, I would recommend staying within the "vanilla" SOA/TOB realm for now. You have plenty of run-throughs to try the other mods/tactics upgrades.

Well, if you've done a warrior type to begin with, then do something different. Perhaps a cleric or mage (if you play an all-good party, both areas are a little lacking, especially the cleric during the early game).

I agree, Nerull, a good cleric is hard to find at the start as I prefer to play Good-aligned parties.
In my current party I started with Osprey (a cleric/mage with only 10 wisdom?? [img]graemlins/1ponder.gif[/img] ) and Mordine from Candlekeep. I left Mordine in Naskell after picking up Dynaheir.
Maybe I'll try a dual class cleric->mage... Any suggestions as to what level I should switch classes?

its an unusual dual - if you're going to take the character through to ToB i think the recommendation has to be to make a multi-class cleric/mage

otherwise i guess the main question is - what do you want to get out of the cleric part?

Yes go with the C/M Multi-Class option. C/M is probably the most powerful spell caster in TOB, just behind the Sorcerer. [img]smile.gif[/img]
