I consider myself to be at the very least smart enough to install a game properly
and then to fix any problems that might occur .I also consider myself to be patient with companies releaseing games with some flaws.

That being said I would like to take neverwinter nights out to the trash can and burn it into a smoking pile of melted plastic. I recently received it from my mother in law for a christmas gift(I new she hated me). The thing that bugs me is that after 4 hours of trying get the game to run past the opening sequence, I still am not able to play. I've gone to the web help pages, called the technical support line,( don't even get me goin on that %$%$%$$ ),uninstalled ,reinstalled, mokeyed around with directx, tryed to get the auto-updater to work,
changed every system setting that is possible on windows 2000, and still the game locks up at the start new game screen. I've had enough, it shouldn't be this hard,it makes me want to weep.

If bioware hadn't released such agood game in SoA and ToB, I would curse them.

It's back to Irenicus's dungeon for me.

%$^$@*% GAME

Sorry to hear about your problems, I however had none..nada zippo in the way of problems, either installing or completing the game.

Perhaps if you posted some specific problems you experienced we could maybe help you out? Along with system specs and details.

This is going to sound pretty obvious, but NWN needs Win2000 SP2. I presume that is your OS?

We'll certainly try to help you get it running because we'd hate to see you miss out on such a great game!

Mouse's suggestion about the service pack sounds like a very good start, but even if that doesn't solve it, you should check the self-help tech support forum at Bioware's NWN site. Lot's of good help can be found there, just be ready with your system specs and specifics about the problem.

One big problem might be your video card, since the same thing happened to K-Spree.

If you can not get the auto updater patch to work go here.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys. I posted that message direcly after battling for a few hours to get it to start. Was getting just a little fustrated.

I am running a 1.8ghz AMD athlon with 256 megs of ram. I am using windows 2000 and have the servicepack3 installed(supposed to cover all the sp1&2 stuff).I do have a bit of a low end stock sis motherboard graphics card but the auto detector in the config. in NWN said it would do.

The game goes through all the beginning sequences fine (logos and whatnot) and the movie plays as smooth as silk but as soon as I go to start the character creation , it freezes (as soon as I click the button).

Any helpful hints would be appreciated.Still would like to play the game, bg1 &2 rocked.

Sincerely, "not as mad as I was"

That does sound weird. I don't have any idea, but hopefully someone else will.

I still think your best bet is the Self-Help Forum at bioware though. Post what you posted here, and I'll bet someone there has had a similar problem and can offer suggestions.

remember win2000 is an office operating system designed for networks and business, i find it an unreliable gaming platform (win98 still one of the best ) its alot better than NT was at running games (had to tweak for hours just to get things like the original quake running ) but as its not designed you need to update it as much as possible with SPs and the like and even then still hope it will run the game, because although the box might say it supports win2000 i tend to find they lie alot, it might support their win2000 machine but not your one.

some people swear by win2000 (i swear at it ) but if your a dedicated games player then go for win98 pr xp both of which have been optimised more for general home usage and gameplay.

I don't know. I have Win 98 on one PC and it runs perfectly. I have also Win 2K with SP3 and it also runs perfectly. It's quite strange thing.. Re-install DirectX and redo all the tests with it, graphics ones and sound ones. Get latest video card drivers and sound card drivers. Try to run the game with no sound. If can, try to run with some other 3d card. Doesn't take much to crash them games
