Could this be the time to suggest using large numbers of summons? Some may consider it cheesy, but... The first time I played the battle at the palace, I had to resort to summons, but the next several times I didn't really have much trouble.
Has anyone ever tried parking a cleric or druid behind Lia or Belt and just had them continually casting healing spells? Hope this is of some use, Moiraine Sedai

I just try and keep belt alive, you dont get anything extra for keeping them both alive. I dont heal him however i just kill any doppelangers that get to near him

Being a Mage with low HP, Liia is much easier to kill, and if one of the Dukes dies, she's usually the one to go (I'm estimating 90% fatality rate for her). But if you're powergaming, cruel, and you still care about money at this stage of the game, Belt drops cooler stuff if he gets whacked.
