Finally beat Sarevok, invised Imoen and snuck her up and launched a few arrows of detonation at Sarevok and crew, but only Sarevok followed me back down to the bottom of the screen. Also Minsc didnt make it through the final battle, but when I transport my main char into BG2 will Minsc be there regardless? I hope so.

i consider my first time battle with Sarevok to have been "un-cheesy". i didnt know what was in store for me, so thinking it was Sarevok vs. my party, i just charged forward. luckily, i didnt hit the center icon, and my party was pretty spread out. Imoen was quickly dead do to the mages cloudkill spell. minsc and my pc and Ajantis all took down Tazok pretty quickly, but then minsc was sniped by that archer. i had dynaheir cast fireball x2 and kivan shoot arrows of explosion(or something like that). this took care of the mage and archer pretty darn quickly, so there was only Sarevok left, whom had by this time taken care of Ajantis and my pc Figter/Cleric was taking heavy hitting. so i resulted in gulping down a potion of invisibility and distracting sarevok with dynaheir, who was of course mirror imaged. she used her dagger of venom and actually hit sarevok once! kivan kept pelting him with arrows of piercing and my pc had healed himself and was slinging away. dynaheir fell quickly, so sarevok set off to kill kivan. kivan unseathed varscona and bravely stood his ground against Sarevok. Kivan lost, but Sarevok was too injured to last long against my PC this time. so that was my hard earned victory over Sarevok...

I consider the way I beat him to be uncheesy, I had Imoen drink a potion of invisibility and walk up to Sarevok, I didnt plan on this working, but I launched some arrows of detonation at him and ran down, Imoen also had drank an oil of speed. But the cool thing is that only Sarevok followed me down, I quickly had Minsc engage him, Kivan was firing arrows of dispelling and Imoen attacked with her backstabbing dagger +3, Dynaheir casted magic missle and Viconia healed, it wasnt long before Minsc fell then my PC paladin took over, had to heal him a few times but Sarevok fell....

Also how do you go about transporting your main character into BG2?

copy the final character export the game does at the end, into your bg2 directory and import the character into bg2 when you make your character.

mage spells will NOT be carried over to BG2, you have to start from scratch with a few selection choises.

Someother character details such as weapon skills will need to be reconfigured again as well. Also, some character classes have the option of being "specialist" e.g. undead hunter for paladins. With the additional options you have, such as starting as a sorceror rather than a mage, you may want to ignore the extra level (-s) you may get by playing BG/TotSC, and go straight to BGII-SoA/ToB.

Losing out on your Wizard spells when you transition to BG2 isn't much of a come-down: You'll get them all back soon enough, and now, every scroll you scribe to your Mage Book earns the party EXP.

About Dimension Door: I actually agree with BioWare's decision to remove it. Yes, it's irritating as hell to see that everybody in the entire country can cast Dimension Door except you and your party, but giving the player access to DD had vast potential for bugs: Say that walking past a certain section of a hallway causes a certain event to trigger. If it's a "bad" event, powergamers could DD over that spot and avoid the effects. Or other problems could crop up just by accident: Critical plot points might not get triggered, or in the wrong order. Taking DD out of the game also gave the designers more leeway when making the various map areas: They could now (for example) stash a fabulously cool item on the roof of a tower, without worrying about players DDing themselves straight to the roof instead of battling their way through the tower.

The only real downside to the transition to BG2 is that if you Dualed to a Specialist Mage in BG1, your Specialization will be removed: You can't Dual to a kit in BG2. (But you will be given the option of choosing a kit for your first class.)
