I have played BG1(won twice) , BG2 (won twice) and Iwd (won it 4 times).
I am kind of lost in this IWD2 as I am note really familiar with third edition rules. How do I create a fighter mage(multi class) ? I made a fighter with high inteligence and bought lots of magic skills...Will I be able to make him cast magic while being a fighter ? What should I do ? Any help is appreciated !!! Tks Ed

axl, as far as i know. your fighter wont be able to use magic items, ie wands,scrolls... if and when u obtain a level then and only then i think u can multiclass him to a mage...

Each time you advance a lvl, you may advance it in any class, meaning, when your character reaches 2nd lvl you may choose to give him a mage lvl instead of fighter making him 1/1. then at third lvl you choose wether you advance in F or M class making him 2/1 or 1/2 or even give him a third class making him 1/1/1. Be carefull with ability scores 'cause they do not work like 2nd ed. Furthermore I'd like to state that 3rd ed. sucks. Let's go back to good old 2nd ed.!

Also be careful of exp penalties when multiclassing. Unless you made a human or 1/2 elf, or wizard or fighter is the favored class of the race you chose, if the fighter and mage levels get more than 1 apart from each other, you'll incur an exp penalty.

Tks...Do you think I can cast spells if I have the proper inteligence and MAGIC skils/feats ? I made a fighter with a good inteligence which granted him lots of feats and I had choose many magic related skils in order to make him a fighter mage type character....... I do agree that 3rd edition rules sucks...... tks again ED

Nope... you cannot use nagic UNTIL you level up and gain a level of mage. Now, if you were a rogue or bard, you could take the skil "Use Magic Device" and use some magical ITEMS only... but with a fighter, you are stuck.
And I don't agree about 3rd Ed, I played IWD a while ago, and the only thing that I can remember is that I was too confused to multi-class... I liked the kits though... which are sadly lacking in this game... *And so another thread becomes a second vs third ed debate*

Yes yes.....
And the world goes round...... And round... First things first. To answer to AXL, you will have to wait until you get the 1000 xp's (won't take long) and get a mage lvl to use magic abilities. And do not spend your fighter feats and skills points to raise wizard's feats and skills as they are more "expensive" that way. Wait to get the wizard lvl and then you can raise the needed skills at less cost. Each time you advance a class, preffer to raise the advanced class's feats and not the others, as they cost more. As for the 3rd ed. rules, I hate how many dices you have to use each round. Secondly I feel they made the game pure hack and slash and lost the original games idea. RPG. Role Playing Game. It needs character interaction. But when you take so much time to find the "tree" you loose the "forest" Third, this whateverclassIwant lvl up is the worst system as the character looses it's philosophy, and as most of the players say let's give him a little of everything. Bad, too bad and definately to RPG.

Darthiir
Many tks for your advice, I have been playin a while this week and could level up both classes on this character, now it is 2/2 fighter mage. I did some mistakes in advancing mage skills while leveling in fighter, but now it is done. I think the system is not so bad but it is complicated !!! Am I missing magic items or this game has fewer than the BG1-2 series ? I usually scan the screens for treasure and if I cant find anything I use the ALT key to see the hidden places... Tks for all opinions !! Ed

I've played all of the various IE games and I must dissent. I like the new 3rd ed rules. (FYI, I do not play pnp DnD.)
@Darthiir, if you don't want to have a character that's nothing but a mix of 4 or more different classes, don't make it that way. ![]() @Axl of Darkness: The best way to learn the IWD 3rd ed rules is just to read the rule book, read the various spells, and play the game. Reading threads on this board on the topic won't hurt either. I had no clue about the 3rd ed rules before playing IWD2, but by the time I was done with chapter 1 and somewhat into chapter 2, I think that I understood it pretty well. I like the flexibility of the 3rd ed rules vastly more than the 2nd ed rules. |
