Finally picked up IWD2 yesterday and as soon as I get home tonight I'm hitting the install button. So before I embark on this maiden voyage of gaming goodness I need the advice of you armchair adventurers out there. Is there anything really important I have to know before starting? Whats a good party make up? Any feats which are 'must haves'? What sub-races are good? Which skills come in handiest? Etc...
Many thanks in advance. ![]() |

Sorry mate. I did play UO years ago but even then it was under a different nick. This other Rimjaw fellow must obviously be out to ruin my good name via wanton acts of PKilling.

i'm only up to chapter two, but my shield dwarf makes an excellent fighter. oh yeh, and get a rogue or a ranger or someone who can disable traps. i think you should get some XP, but i didn't have any, so yeh.... i have no idea about the 3rd edition rules. i had to redo my party about five times. but i think it's getting easier. sorry i couldn't be more helpful.

What about Rangers/Paladins/Barbarians. Are they worth taking along over a normal Fighter?

I have a paladin and ranger and I like them. My advice would be to get 3 fighter type class, a priest, spellcaster, and a thief.

1. Paladin is a good class but be careful as some of the oders have multiclass restrictions.
2. I have never tried ranger but I think Ranger/fighter should do well as a tank 3. Barbarian/fighter is a deadly combo (or so I have read in other people's post) 4. Sorcerer is a kickass spellcaster but you will have to choose wisely on the available spells. Note: At higher levels, Animate dead is a real kickass spell, plus the animated undeads stays with you for 16 hours (I think) which renders them as good disposable tanks. ![]() [ 09-25-2002, 12:56 AM: Message edited by: Paladin2000 ]

rogues are a must because there are hordes around nearly every corner.
also try and have all of your guys to keep ranged weapons on you. and dont worry too much about ammo you can pick up lots of arrows off dead bodies. a person with high char and bluff/diplo/intimidate are useful and yes a barbarian is much better than a fighter mine is only lvl 2-3 (cant remember) and he has 38 health. |

dear friend of the internet
for me you will need to have a couple of fighters, those that fight in the front - close contact battle with swords, then have a couple of rangers type that use arrows which i call the sniper type, long range fighting type, then you need to have a wizard and a cleric(clearic can heal and raise dead in the later stage when they advance in level), they are fun to use, watching them perform magic, plus they can dispel magic heals, when they are at higher level the magic they perform are deadly. plus don't forget to have a thief that can search for traps and open locks, which is a must (this task belong to the ranger or rogue), me I forgot the find trap so now I can't do that, have a variety of different charecter types so you won't get stuck later not being able to perform certain thing and have to restart. have fun.. it's a great game.
