The book (& the SoA book) largely ignore all NPC's & side-quests. Most of the people you meet (Imoen, Jaheira, etc.) are in there, but just imagine if you took a plain Human Fighter only through the essential quests & ignored all other NPC's & side-quests & you'll get a pretty good idea of how "interesting" the books are.

I much prefered the dark elf trilogy by Salvatore. If anyone else has read this what did you guys think about it. I thought it was well written and Salvatore has become one of my favorite authors.

The BG2 book was recently described on these forums as "needless erotica". I havent heard anything better of the BG1 books. In other words avoid. Read the older Forgotten Realms books, I have heard good things about them.

I saw this piece of Literature at Waldenbooks and sat down in the asile to begin to read it...After about twenty minutes all I could do was breathe a heavy sigh and thank the ones above that I didn't spend any money on it...in my opinion the book would be best described as drivel.

I thought the trilogy ROCKED!!! I love Salvatore's work. If I wasn't born with the wrong set of equipment, I'd go as far as to say I'd have the man's baby.

I wouldn't use any of the books to line my bins with. They are total trash, and really do take the pi$$ out of every good author out there. I hated them all, and that's saying something, as I'm usually very leniant.
And yes, it was I who described the BG2 book as needless erotica. My comment was quickly dismissed with "There is no such thing as 'needless erotica'

Yes, I've seen his picture, and yes, he's an ugly sot. But, fortunately, I can't have children, being improperly equipped, so I can easily sidestep any obligations created by my previous statement.

Or something.

R. A.'s books are great, until you get past siege of darkness, that's where it all really started becoming more of the same to me, and Spine of the World, his novel about Wulfgar is a horrid piece of trash, abysmal even. sea of swords wasn't much better, as if you've read Homeland in the dark elf trilogy you know who the villain is before any of the tell-tale clues begin appearing. I really enjoyed the cleric quintet, and recommend it highly. Servant of the shard is also highly recommended, as it provides a very nice look into the psyche of the villain Drizzt battle all the way through the IWD trilogy and many of the later books

BG1 the book did kinda stuck, I thought it looked good at the store. I was so excited to see it because I was playing BG1 and found it fascinating that someone wrote a book about it. I have only read 2 forgotten realms books so far (I got a little bored with them), but I would love it if you other forum members would recommend some that you liked. And to answer your question I really wouldn't want to ruin the book for you so I'll keep it basic ... there aren't many NPC's in the book, they are just like minor characters in any other book. And you do have a group in a way: some people like Jaheria and Khaild travel with you.
