I got Branwen at lvl 6. Whenever I skeletons, I just make Branwen turn on 'Turn undead'. I see a 'swirl' above the heads of the skeletons and they go unhostile and run away.

My question is: Would a cleric at level 6 not be able to destroy the skeletons automatically instaed of just making them run as scared chickens?

Obviously not. If she could, she would.
I don't know is it changed from PnP, but I don't think so.

i never use turn undead mainly cos its more fun killing em, but i think if the rules being played properly yes the undead should have a chance of being destroyed even at level 1 though more chance of them running away

The way that i understand the way it works is that as you get farther up in levels your turn undead does more damage than making undead run. I am also under the impression that this skill really doen't come into its own until BG2 or with an insane XP cap remover.

turn undead never does damage, it either scares them(sort of technically w/out feelings they can't be scared) or destroys them, unless you either then it for lack of better term converts them(think the ultimate charm)

and your right you need to be high level to get any real effect out of it. I don't use it very often in bg2 because it takes a full round and usually i've killed most them by then.

doesn't the word "destroy" imply "damage"? After all I would be hard pressed to destroy something without damaging it.

heh your being picky, by damage you normally mean incremental damage and destroy is the whole, so yes damage counts for all, but he obviously meant you dont do damage as such ie "18" "5" etc you just destroy completely, theres no in between.... well thats what i assumed reading it, sacksville loon im gonna set me xvarts on you for questioning my wobbly mental health *goes off to find some undead to turn......on and party with!*

not necessarily, I view it as the gods bestowing divine power to remove a blight from the world (ie undead) or to steal control of them and create more to serve you(evil clerics)

But all questions of syntax aside does not the basic idea of...Turn undead in BG1=crappy----turn undead in BG2=impressive....still hold true???after all this is the gist of what I was trying to say in the first place.

Yes Mr Underhill, that is essentially it. Don't bother with it until BG2. I don't, and I'm sure others have given up trying. As for the "damage", the effect of the Turn is to sever the link between the Prime Material Plane (this one) and the Negative Material Plane from which all undead draw their particular status. Thus, you don't need to cause incremental damage, instead have divine aid to cause the disruption between the natural/unnatural link.

Or so they tell me.
