Diablo 2 Diablo 2 Diablo 2 Hehe, kidding you man!

Well Diablo 2 is fun game though, good for your fingermuscles!

But Iīm sorry, IWD is not really that much Roleplaying, no dialouges worth mentioning, the only "smart" thing I have encountered is when you have a Paladin in your party and the Innkeeper and the evil snake priest discussions comes to play. So the likeness with Diablo 2 isnīt that far of IMHO. THough party based, and not with as many clicks.

It is like Fallout Tactical, a tactical game with a rpg flavour attached to it. IWD is mostly like that, crearues do destroy, things to find, clear complete areas, kill boss and so on. (yeah I know, sounds downgrading, but in the end the games donīt differ that much. But I like them both.)

Hehe, I'm not saying that Diablo 2 is a bad game, matter of fact, I highly enjoy it and play on Bnet regularly! However, I'm just stating that it does not compare to any infinity engine game when it comes to actually "roleplaying"

Just wanted to clarify! ;]

The thing with Diablo is much on the dark side kind of game. Its first, not much role playing. Second its dealing with only devil, and skeletons. I like being in the open tundra, or pine woods in my role playing game, dealing not specifically with Devil, and Skeletons, but Dark Elves and Ogers .

Wow, this is really straying from IWD, but oh well!

Durwyn, have you played Diablo 2? There are TONS of monster types to fight! Also , there are now tons of outdoor areas (especially Act V, accessed through the Lord of Destruction expansion pack~!

True, IWD really does shortchange the roleplaying aspect, since it is so linear. I think that the reason I really savor IWD is that it is so tactics oriented. The way battles are fought is truly non-linear: You have complete freedom within the context of the battle, and even the order in which many battles are fought. Thus, it is a loosely linear string of non-linear (and highly satisfying) experiences.

IWD reminds me of another tactical game that I think I enjoyed more than any other game I have played: Myth/Myth II. I REALLY enjoyed the physics-based engine and it's direct application to tactics. Tactics, Tactics, Tactics! If BI would add 3-D and true physics-based effects to IWD (where higher terrain makes your arrows fly farther and do more damage, schlogging uphill is slower than running downhill, the steepness of the terrain dictates how much faster or slower, confined spaces amplify damage from explosions, and weather affecting travel speed and the reliability of weapons, etc.), then I would be in Seventh Heaven!

Azred, why do you say that anti-magic shell and mind blank are two of the most useful spells in IWD? I am not hinting that they aren't; just don't have them, yet, and am curious.

Party on!

edited to ask spell questions

Talk about resurrecting an extremely old and buried topic... ...
--------
NobleNick,

I would KILL to have Mind Blank in Baldur's Gate 2. It is similiar to the Cleric's Chaotic Commands, but with more benefits, and it lasts for 24 hours... ...

Anti-Magic Shell is more applicable to Fighter/Mages I think, because it prevents the caster from casting as well.
--------
pcgiant,

WOLFGIR was talking about Potion Bags which SoA does not have. It was only with the introduction of ToB that Potion Bags were introduced. Take note of the date of this thread.
