I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of weapons i should get proficiencies in and what weapons certain enemies are susceptible to. For example, what weapon is best to kill an ogre or an orc etc. Thanks in advance for the help!

The one I remember running into a lot was that any skeletal undead will have 50% resistance to any dammage that isnt crushing. Its really annoying at times.

Get the weapons that you like. If you imagine your fighter deftly slashing his foes with the graceful arc of a longsword, then go for longswords. If you imagine him crushing his enemies' heads in with a huge great mace, then go for maces.
There are plenty of good weapons of all types in the game. You will more likely find yourself spoiled for choice rather than searching for something to smack iron golems with. From a practical standpoint, you may want to equip your party with a vareity of attack options. I mean, if your fighter's main weapon is a sword, then keep a mace around for enemies who are resistant to slashing weapons (like the undead). Also, keep the Fire versions of each weapon around. They usually come in handy. Happy Hacking and Slashing (and Bludgeoning, for good measure)

if i could take my weapon skills again i would commit to both of them being 2 handed weapons or one handed to save flicking from inventory to game whenever u want to change from a one handed weapon and a shield to a bow. I'm up to dorns deep now, and i'd recommend 2 handed sword skills and bow skills. Regarding the fire weapons, there useful for:
Spoiler - - - - - - - - - - - - - Ice trolls in dragons eye (they can only be slain by fire weapons)
