How exactly do you control elementals? I have found several Summon Elementals scrolls of various types and want to use them properly. I've tried them and the elemental has "nothing to say" when I've tried to talk to them or direct them. It appears also that I can't direct them to fight for me.

I found the Earth Elemental Ring earlier in the game . . . how does one use it? I tried using it with a summoned Earth Elemental but again, he wouldn't do anything.

I You should be able to click on it and control it like it is a normal summoned creature, or one of your party members. You can't talk to him.

And you don't need the ring to control your summoned elemental. They should be automatically under your command. You can use the ring on hostile ones.

If this (simply clicking on the elemental) doesn't work, then are you patched and have the fixpack installed? If not try getting them.

I thought it was as simple as that. I tried using a fire and an earth elemental against the shadow dragon. They wouldn't attack it. Was that due to its magic resistance?

I am completely patched. I will try an elemental on something else to see what happens.

Can you control normally non-elemental summoned creatures?

Yes, haven't had any problems controlling summoned or charmed creatures. I'm assuming since the elementals are magical, the shadow dragon's magic resistance stopped it from attacking?

Firstly: Was the dragon hostile, as in, with a red circle? No summoned monster (That's friendly) will attack a non-hostile creature.

Secondly: Are you using the arcane (wizard) or Divine (Cleric/druid) version of elemental summoning? If it's Divine, then there's a problem. Arcane has the caster create a "mind link" with the summoned elemental, and, during that time, the elemental stays put.

Like Kyrvias said. If you found a scroll, it must be the arcane version. After the summoning is completed, your mage must spend a few rounds or so forcing the elemental under his will. If this is successful, you can control the elemental as any other summoned monster. If it fails, the elemental will attack you, after which you can try to charm it with the rings of elemental control. You cannot use the ring until the elemental attacks you.

Well, are you sure you were done casting the spell? After the elemental's summoned, the caster has to wait a round or something to bend it to its will. During this time the wizard can not move, attack, or cast spells, and there is also a little picture in the caster's box, something like a domination picture.

When you cast the spell, your wizard will "lock" into position (like being under a hold spell) with rings of circles above the wizards' head. while this is happening, the wizard is making the mind link. The elemental will not have a green (or red) circle under it. This will take a few moments, and when you see the elementals' circle (hopefully) turn green, then you can control it.
I know, a long-winded version of Balintherlas' response, sorry.
