i got 2 games with my first computer: diablo and bg1.
i remember playing diablo first: walking into the first dungeon then dying a bloody death because i didn't know what was going on. in frustration, i put it away, thinking, "ugh! this is a boy's game!"
then i pulled out bg1. i got to make a character (with no clue whatsoever), and actually talked to everyone in candlekeep. i left it on the computer thinking, "wow! this ISN'T a boy's game!"
remember the opening movie?? i was scared witless.
remember the first time you got a chapter movie? with the pretty mosaic scenes? i still love those!

I hardly remember BG1, and it failed to leave as much an impression on me as BG2 has. These are the things I remember most vividly.
I remember reloading save after save to those blasted Dwarves in the Chateau Irenicus.
I remember actually feeling dread when I tripped the alarm in her room.
I remember my wide-eyed look when I saw the stats for Robe of Vecna. And an even wider-eyed one when I saw the price tag.
I remember Jon saying "I cannot be caged. I cannot be controlled. Understand this as you die, ever pathetic, ever fools.", and being in awe by Jon's sheer awesomeness.
I remember first finding the Belt of Masculinity/Femininity and keeling over with laughter.
I remember first talking to Edwin, the arrogant bastard.
I remember losing battles due to laughter caused by the extremely awesome combination of Minsc and Lilarcor.
I remember facing Bodhi for the first time, dreading the vampire and her kin.
I remember running for my life when I first faced a Pit Fiend and forgetting to bring a +3 weapon.
I remember finally standing atop the broken body of Firkraag, my entire team half dead, my spells emptied, my potions spent, but victorious. I remember goosebumps.
I remember the nightmare of Liches and Demiliches.
I remember talking to Jon for the first time since my escape, after I have learned alot about my nemesis.
I remember fighting Jon for the first time. I remember exactly where the Load button is, how it looks like, and how long it takes to load Suldanessellar.
I remember bursting from laughter when I heard Cespenar say "Can you say it? Hindo's... Doooooooooooooom."
I remember swearing at the immune-to-magic golems in ToB.
I remember the feeling of awesomeness when I reached level 30.
Six months ago, I visited a friend who started playing BG2. "Hey, check out this cook belt I found!" and shows me his character, wearing the Belt of Masculinity/Femininity. I remember laughing, and reminiscing all my happy times...
I remember, and rue the day I rolled up my solo Sorcerer.

It wasn't when I wrote it, but I recall realizing it could be interpreted that way after I posted it.

Hee hee.

I have a few "do you remember" stories. The very first time I ever found the Shadow Dragon.

I remember thinking "Woa! This thing has its own area code! Maaaybe I'll give it the slip."

I had a certain rock, but I didn't know if the spell it cast had a time limit, or a minimum effective range, or what. So I went sneaking around the room, looking for the exit. And of course I go sneaking clockwise. After what felt like a nail - bitingly long time, not knowing if or when that dragon would turn hostile, I finally find the exit. And what happens after a minute or so of silent tension?

YOU MUST GATHER YOUR PARTY BEFORE VENTURING FORTH!

I gave a bit of a jump, I must say. My first instinctive reaction was that this "helpful" booming voice would have woken up the dragon and half its ancestors.

Fortunately for me, monsters can't hear game messages.

I remember, way back in BG1, while recuperating at the halfling village next to Firewine, buying a Raise Dead spell from the priest... for myself, when Minsc was the dead person. I didn't know how to actually use that. My first game ended because the party was too poor to continue.

I am glad I am not the only one to have done that. I remember going to work for several days running with little to no sleep when I first starting playing BG1 as I was ploaying it on a friends PC and he was leaving to go to Madrid and I HAD TO finish it. I have only recently completed the whole saga(7 years later)but it was worth the wait.

Of course, magic was much more unpredictable and dangerous back in the day. The casting sounds were loud and scary, because we all knew it was something only foes could really control. One wrong move and you could either incinerate your entire party with a fireball or lightning bolt.

Remember praying that Jahiera could squeeze off a Cure Light Wounds without getting her spell disrupted in battle? Man, BG sure was hard.
