how to enter BG city in chapter 5

Can't get into BG city in chapter five - what to do????

why cant u get in? cant see the gateway? go over the bridge till you see quayle, little gnome guy and go south from him, click where the gate is till you are under it then you can see the rest and the start of baldurs gate, then just exit the map....

Cheers mate but I still can't enter BG via map - The only site showing available sites north of the friendly inn is the bandit camp - I can't get to the bridge, farm, BG city or anything else north of the friendly inn.
There's supposed to be an invisible switch in the elevator at cloakwood mines which is supposed to trigger the map after you've flooded the mines. But I am afraid that I was wearing boots of speed at the time and therefore did not trigger the switch that makes BG city available for me to travel to. I've tried walking around the elevator slowly but nothing seems to trigger the map.

I thought the response was from the documentation that you found in the chests at the bottom after you deal with Davaeron (spelling)? That is normally how you progress in the game.

Which is no good to you if you've flooded the mines already.

CLUA to the bridge. CLUA instructions can eb found on the esape gaming Bg1 site. Probably, they are for Bg2 and IWD at least.

The area code, Ill post later if no-one else does.

Have you tried going directly north from the friendly arm instead of following the road? This should take you to the farmers homestead...exit this map to the north and Whalla Bauldurs Gate.

baldurs gate bridge you can ALWAYS get to even at level 1, just go north from friendly arm north from the farm and your there, doesnt matter what chapter, that route is always open, its just baldurs gate itself wont open up till chapter 5 (the bridge you need for the tenya umberlee quest)

Thank you all for your advice - only problem is that I can't even go to the farm north of the friendly inn (doesn't show on the map) and I cant go north unless it's to the bandit camp - and even from there I can't go north when I exit the camp - i.e. I can only travel to areas that are already on the map. Areas that are highlighted I can go to but I can't even travel to the road north of the friendly inn.....
What to do??????

That sounds unnatural.. everytime you exit a map to north, a new highlighted area should appear.

Well, hopefully you have a savegame so that you can trigger it on.

You have to EXIT the Friendly Arm inn map from the correct side as well. I.e. if you want to go to north, you go to the upper edge of the map and exit it from there. If it is possible for you to go there, you will see a "blue" area pic and you can go there.

If you exit Friendly Arm inn through some other "side", i.e. left/right/lower edge of the map, then you will NOT have the access to the upper area, as you were not "entering" it.
