Yeah I'm using one of these community college computers that has no speakers so I'm out of luck. And I WAS going to listen to the Baldur's Gate soundtrack but I lost the CD before I even got home!

Oh and btw can you play BG2 on a Pentium II 350 with 128 MB ram? I can't use the sound card on this computer, so I'll just have to play it with no special effects...if I can even do that.

Yes, you can. I play it all the time on a Pentium II 366 with 128 MB ram. It may get slightly choppy at times, but it's certainly playable, and doesn't make the game any less enjoyable

Bad luck with the sound issue

I was playing BG1 during my lunch break at work on a Pentium 2, 350 MHz, 64MB, with no sound and it was ok. Not great, but ok. I didn't miss out too much on the sound, but it took some getting used to being so quiet. You can't hear those hobgoblins yell "Spare no one" or the Xvarts scream "Attack", before they hit you. Just stay alert.

Right. You don't miss that much without sound but still something is missing and it doesn't feel right without the sound. Well just my opinion

I think that without the sound you lose a vital part of the roleplaying portion of the game. Does a lack of sound hurt the game technically? No, but there is a lot of interaction with the world of the Sword Coast that you miss out on.

Well you miss the great music and a big part of atmosphere, but nothing vital. Just like said above, you then need a better concentration. Eating muffins and talking to your friends while playing can be lethal, especially on latter part of the game.

Wife and kid entering the room can also be lethal to the characters.

I, too, play with no sound--usually. That's because my computer is tweaky, perhaps due to the fact that I'm using Widows ME. Every once in a while (slowly becoming more & more frequent), the sound cuts out for no reason. I can get it back by Saving the game, or Alt-Tabbing out and playing a little bit of an MP3. The bad part is that if the game tries to play a movie while the sound is jammed, the computer locks up & I have to reboot.

It's the computer's fault, not the game's: It happens with other games too (But, interestingly enough, not with Age of Empires, which is a Microsoft product.)

See a domesticated Kobold could prevent that from happening
