My actual party members are:

Charis (Ranger)
Ajantis
Imoen
Kivan
Branwen
Dynaheir

Dyhaheir just died and I am not sure whether I should raise her from the dead. I would like to have Coran in my party, do you think it is a better idea to take him, dual class Imoen to thief/mage and leave Dynaheir where she is?

I tend to have only single classed spell casters so that I can use 5th level spells as soon as possible. If I dual them (self made), it is from Fighter at third level at the latest, giving them 18+% stength and three stars in the weapon of my choice at the loss of very little XP.

Dynahier seems to die WAY too often. How the heck did she survive impisiment in the Gnoll Fortress is beyond me. You have to keep close tabs on her in the heat of battle; but if you equip her with the best stuff, she'll be allright.

I say, if you are set on Coran, I would dump Imoen and keep Dynaheir.

Welcome to the boards Bastet.
Tough choice. I prefer Dynaheir because she is Lawful Good, so she doesn't complain about my high rep. I never had Coran in my party, so I cannot give you any advice concerning him. Just keep your reputation in mind when reforming the party. Good likes high rep. Neutral grumbles when over 18. Evil leaves when over 18.

I, personally, would Dual Imoen and lose Dynaheir, but this is something you have to plan for:

- A Mage in the party is more of a handicap than an asset during the first part of the game, so Dualing makes a lot of sense.
- If Imoen is already past Level 6, ir may be too late.
- What did you put Imoen's Thieving skills into? If you concentrated on Traps, with the rest going into Pockets or Stealth, you're groovy, because Coran's studied mostly Locks, with some Stealth, and he can do Pockets later.

I like Coran's voice set and attitude a lot better than Dynaheir's. One thing, though: After you complete his quest, every few days or so he'll still remind you that you need to complete his quest. Insignificant bug--he won't leave the party over it, so you can just ignore him.

You might consider where you are in the game. If you still need Find/Remove Traps, then you might want to keep Imoen as she is. If not, or you have plenty to do whilst waiting for her to get to level 7 as a mage, then go for it.

Coran with a decent bow is a fantastic archer. Have several characters like him in the party, and watch 'em die before they ever get to you!

first of all: thanks a lot for your help. I like Baldurs Gate a lot and I think this forum is a very helpful place. For I am playing the german version of the game I sometimes have some problems with the vocabulary but I think with a little bit of fantasy these can be solved. One more question regarding Imoen: She is now at level 5, is this the right time for dualing her? Otherwise I will keep Dynaheir for a while.

The way that I understand things to work....welcome to the boards by the way... is that you are almost to the point to where it where it will be too late to Dual Imoen given the XP cap that the designers put on the game. I say this because you don't get her thieving skills back until her points as a mage catch up...This is what Six was referring too when he told you that if she was at level six it may be too late.

Ups, as you can see I am not that familiar with Baldurs Gate yet. But I am doing my very best. Thanks for the hint, Baggins!

How to tell if it's too late to Dual Imoen (or any other character, for that matter):

1) Check the Experience cap for your game. If you're playing plain Baldur's Gate 1, it's 89,000. If you have the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion installed, it's 161,000.
2) Check Imoen's current level. (Let's say she's Level 5.) Now find the EXP required for her to reach that level. (In this case, 10,000 EXP.) Now find the experience required to get one level higher as whatever class you want to Dual to. (In this case, we're trying to become a Level 6 Mage, which requires 40,000 EXP.) The two numbers, ADDED TOGETHER, must be LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO your game's experience cap. If the total is higher than your EXP cap, it's too late to Dual, unless you want to give up your first class entirely.
