Sure thing, love single class mages. I admit that I only wentreally looking for Imoen the first time I played the game through. When she rejoined in the second game I immediately dumped her again, because she is such a whiner. I liked her in BGI but in SoA and ToB she sucks bigtime. *Of course that's only my opinion*
I would rather have seen Dynaheir in the party again, she was much better and a single class mage at that.

I have always played good aligned pc's/parties and I will keep doing so.
Not my kind of playing style to play an evil party.

As for Jaheira being "only" level 15 Druid, how about her special abilities like shape-shifting? Give her a dragon skin armor and she can take a lot of melee while meeting out natural justice

Are you implying that the game is not using the regular experience level tables for druids? I know they level up a lot slower in pnp games, since they use partially the same table as specialty priests, but I hadn't noticed progression being slower than normal.
I'm not sure if they us the regular exoeperience tables are not but they level up very slowly. The level cap for druids in regular SOA was only level 14 so that may have something to do with them leveling up so slowly. Maybe druids just level up slowly in p'n'p D&D as well I don't know I've never played it. But clerics seem to level up alot faster.

Kaltia-archer.
Sarevok: (using Ascension, he's now chaotic good)
Anomen: why not? i like Vico but thought I should get to know Anomen.
Imoen: Little sis! I like Immy, she's really sweet and I've never had a party without her!
nalia: good mage
Kelsey: additional NPC sorcerer. My boyfriend, but his romance doesn't work in ToB yet

Druids use a different experience level table in pnp games, and I think they stuck to that same table in BGII/ToB. Will check however tonight when I get home. Same table (at least partially) is being used for specialty priests in pnp games.

My party is practically the same as Legolas's:

NG Stalker
Aerie
Keldorn
Jaheira
Nalia
Imoen

I played most of SoA with this party, and even went back and stole Keldorn from his family after I compassionately let him go - just couldn't replace him. Aerie is great, though fragile. My favorite trick with her is blade barrier, then sanctuary, followed by a leisurely stroll through the enemy ranks while everyone else is doing more hands-on fighting. Jaheira is quite a good tank, add ogre power gauntlets, good armor, shield blocking mind control spells, and the right amulet and you have reasonable AC:-9, immunity to level drain, stoneskined, scimitar weilding (Belm is +1 Attack, 7/2 attacks for Jaheira) banshee that can cast spells (yeah creeping doom) and is immune to A LOT.

Nalia and Imoen - twins? I like Nalia better, and she is the higher level spellcaster. I'd get rid of Imoen before Nalia, but can't bear to part with her.

My group is not what I call balanced. I have a problem w/ SoA/ToB in that crappy thieves are all one has available. Jan aside, has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm running a new game where I play evil character (well, at least he's not-so-good - Neutral Evil translates to "selfish" but not "mean" if you read up on it - and "lawful evil" translates to "selfish and will use/abuse the rules to his best ability" - "chaotic evil" is the only one that means "wants to make the world a bad place"). The character was Fighter lvl 10 or 12 w/ good specializations & then I dual-classed to thief. Has anyone else tried this?? Does anyone other than me find problems with the thief selection in SoA?

If you mention how cool Yoshimo is, you haven't played far enough to comment on this question. It was nice with him around, even though "I can dance on the head of a pin as well" got really annoying.

Seriously, folks, how do you get by without mages. I find myself constantly feeding Imoen potions of master theivery, and she would be such a better mage if I could take those damned boots of stealth and thief rings away and give her better equipment.

She's a fine thief, for me...she's wearing boots of speed, ring of wizadry, circlet of the nethril, robe of vecna, yadda-ya...she kicks ass even better than likkle Nalia
She's dekced up like she's more important for her spells...which she is. i don't understand why people think she's crap...she's not good, but she's adequate.

I picked the first NPCs I came across Oddly, I unwittingly stumbled on a terrifyingly powerful combination, in my view.

Tancred, Cavalier
Minsc
Jahiera
Anomen
Nalia
Imoen/Yoshimo

Fairly standard. However, standing back and looking at this, this party can muster -

4 powerful fighters; Tancred and Minsc do well with their double-handed swords, and Jahiera and Anomen - as a fighter/cleric and a fighter/druid - offer excellent support with shields and hand weapons.
5 missile weapons; Minsc's longbow, Jahiera and Anomen's slings, Nalia and Imoen's shortbows. If nothing else Tancred hangs around in front and intercepts enemy charges.
4 healers; this is the REAL lovely. With a paladin, ranger, druid and cleric in the team, this party can literally put itself back together from devastating losses in a few turns. This allows us to save on healing potions for when we really need them.
6(!) spellcasters. Yehaa! The amount of defensive and enhancing spells hese guys can kick out is amazing, and the 4 main spellusers can combine to lay waste to almost anything with the Ranger and Paladin holding off the foe.
2 thieves - although neither Imoen or Nalia have continuing thief levels, I tended to give Nalia all the 'wizard' gear and Imoen all the 'thief' gear. Equipped well, Imoen passes as a capable thief - good enough to find most traps, able to pick most locks.
3 stealth agents - Minsc, Nalia and Imoen work well as an 'infiltration' squad, and many's the time a foe has charged the other three only to be smashed from the flank by magic and bowfire. Nalia's stealth ability is a bit erratic, but this is easily overcome by use of various invisibility spells/items...

All in all, a flexible squad that can take just about anything and act well as a team.

Oh dear...thank God, with the exception of Lilarcor, there are no talking swords in BG2...

Beaten the entire saga (BG1,Totsc,BG2, TOB) twice, first with
Dwarf Fighter (changed 2 Berserker in BG2), Keldorn, Nalia, Minsc, Anomen, Jan.
and again with
Elf Fighter/Thief, Anomen, Minsc, Valygar, Jan, Nalia (give Nalia shadow armor, Jan Night's Gift and you've got 4(!) backstabbers for incredible damage.) Then, just use staff of the magi and ring of invisibility to move jan and nalia to the back, and toast 'em!
