I was making my way through the woods just west of Durlag's Tower when I came across a group of Xvarts attacking --... A COW! The cow was taking it in the chin so I had my priests heal it and killed off those Xvarts. Some farmer guy gave me some exp and a rep point for healing his poor cow. Then I decided that I liked this cow and wanted to take it with me.

So I cast a charm spell on it and tried to command it to move...it wouldn't! If I couldn't have this cow then neither could the farmer so I started wackin' the cow and it started charging and mooing at me....large animal that it was, took me 56 points worth of HP to kill it. After doing so then the farmer turned on me and my mages, getting a little bit carried away, started casting Chromatic orbs and stuff at him. At this point *I* was getting carried away so I called them back.

Then I took a deep breath, thanking whatever god there was that I got out of this deadly encounter with a Cow alive.

"Beware bovines at Durlag's!" Let all know that the killer cow is back. Fear the steer etc.

You've done so well to get out of that encounter alive. Just what were you thinking casting 'Chromatic Orb' at anyone. Least of all the cow - it's a killer. (I would just like to point out that I never have any success with that wretched spell. Ggrrr!)

Erm I was casting the Chromatic Orb thingy at the farmer guy who was running away. I was surprised it didn't kill him right off!

But yeah Chromatic orb doesn't do that much damage and sometimes your enemy resists it anyway so...blech.

Now that Level 3 skull bomb spell is good...at long range anyway.

Your right, I should use Skull Trap more. Come to think of it, I should try using it altogether, 'cause I don't think I have. Its all to do with running into the damnable thing. That's why I have the sig that I have.

I'm still working on the art form bit.

Ehh, I was wondering how my amateur attempt at a humorous story would pan out. I guess it was pretty good then eh?

Y'all are nuts. Chromatic Orb is an awesome spell to use when you level up enough. Just some advice conerning the spell. 1) Its a lot better in BG2 than BG1. 2) Never use it on the Undead since they are immune to many of its special effects (at least I think they are.) Anyways don't downplay the power of a chromatic orb.

'Chromatic Orb' has the potential to be a wonderful "levelling-up" spell, gaining in power as your character gains in experience. However, it's rubbish. A small bit of damage if the opponent saves (and they always do) is all you get. The price for the spell? Taking up a valuable slot for another 'Magic Missile', and that is unforgivable.

I'll have to admit it though, that every once in a while, I'll try to use it again. Statistically, if I bothered with it more I get a better response; it just seems to be marginal in comparison to the "old favourite".

I would have to go with Brass here because the only time the Orb has worked for me was in the beginning while I was fighting monsters that I could kill by sneezing on them now.
